Let's agree to disagree about Foley, en_force_er, and in particular the savvyness of the good people at the Force.

I'm not disagreeing completely Bruce but a lot needs to go right to make a Super rugby team play well. Good coaching, the RIGHT good players, S&C, back room staff, and much more. I just don't want to write a guy off after just one season, after all people wrote Link off.

Yeah, the WA backroom staff do make some mistakes but I think it's clever bringing over a guy from a province that has put together some good results (not this year but in the last couple).

Sounds to me like a 3rd tier of some sort in Aus rugby is needed. Development of coaches, refs and not to mention player depth. Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?

They have, and some of us have mentioned it countless times and in the terms you mentioned. We have bemoaned the fact that the ARC was discontinued after one season in 2007 despite its ticking all the rugby boxes but not the financial ones.

It's an old song I sing.

But maybe you were just leg-pulling. Fair enough.

JON wasnt going to run with an idea that had been implemented by his predecessor.

That's the problem with politicians and organisations run on political lines. Half the time in office is spent fixing or getting rid of initiatives from their predecessor and the other half is spent implementing initiatives to make life difficult for their successor. Between the two very little actual progress is achieved but a lot of time and money is spent.

That was losing a shed load of money, sometimes managers have to cut important divisions if they are dragging down the rest of the business. Especially if the clubs were fighting hard to make that comp to fail.

Love him or hate him, or whether somebody else initiated the ARC, or not, there is no reason why JON would not want more rugby TV content on the national TV channel.

Yep, some big clubs were against it but losing the shed load of money was the only significant reason why the ARC was dropped. It could have been run for another year or two but organisations don't run down their capital in the real world.

When you have to pay a TV broadcaster to put on two TV games a week, instead of the other way around, you are pushing the proverbial soft, brown stuff uphill, from a financial point of view.

The ARC might have been run without the TV coverage but more likely there had to be some to satisfy conditions in the Mazda sponsorship deal.

I doubt if the ARC would ever had been contemplated had JON been at the helm in those years. He is a banker and would have checked the budgets better.

It had to be viewed as an investment in australia's rugby future: something JON has done zilch about. As ye sow so shall ye reap.

They're the smartest people in the team.

The ones that aren't that smart become television commentators.

Isn't it ironic that the smartest one's are the one's that alienate people yet the dumb one's are the people that everyone likes and wants to have a beer with.

In terms of the Tahs moving forward I like Bruce Ross's combination of the Louden-Manenti-Melrose. Strong history of success at the lower levels and it is time that recognition is given to the development pathway of the club programs.

The only thing that worries me about the aforementioned Club coach superteam is having too many chiefs and not enough indians.

I think what the Tahs need right now is a strong head coach who comes in and says to both the board and players "I don't care what you all fucking think, you're going to shut up and do it my way".

That has been the only successful coaching model in Aussie Super Rugby in the past five years. I wouldn't be too unhappy with any of those three taking the reins on their own, I would choose Louden if I had a say. Tim Lane would also be worth a look.

Where is Tim Lane these days?

Re Indians.....We seem to have forwards, half backs, then Horne,Turner,Kingston,Mitchell,Foley,Ashley Cooper etc to run..why aren't we signing an experienced 10 then getting David Horwitz et co. on board to learn the ropes. I think we've already lost Johnny Vaux to the Force as his Dad is now on their board isnt he? Are there any good colts, grade 10s running around as back ups..all we seem to do is take players from the current squad and turn them into what theyre not....specialised 10s.

The last thing the Tahs/Australian Rugby need to do is start talking about 17 year old schoolboy as if he is going to be able to rescue a franchise.
