Gnostic , J turner did his acl i think back in june which is an 8-12 month injury so i doubt he will be around.

I also highly doubt that Waugh baxter and mortlock will be selected.

It will be the current squad plus the returnees and hopefully To'omua, Leiliafano, Morahan

Robbie Deans was a notable spectator at both games this weekend, and his Waratahs counterpart Chris Hickey joined him at T.G. Millner Field for the clash between Randwick and Manly.

While Deans may have been looking at players like Randwick’s Ben Mowen to take on the EOYT, he said those players with the benefit of test background would remain in the frame as much as possible.

But he says the moving target over the next couple of weeks is injury and settling on the number of fit tourists to be taken.

He ruled out the chances of James Horwill, Digby Ioane, Wycliff Palu or Tatafu Polota-Nau joining the squad while Ben Alexander will be back and the only other possibility is Rod Davies, who is back running but hasn’t played any rugby .

Green and Gold Rugby can reveal that Deans would like to take as many as 37 players on tour this year, given the development opportunities provided by mid-week games against Leicester and Munster and the chance to be able to train with the Wallabies squad.

A replacement is yet to be finalised for the departing Richard Graham, with short-term choices limited due to contractual obligations.

Good to see Alexander back.
There's some good midweek games and it'll be interesting to see who gets a run in a 37 man team. Will only 17 ever get used?

Interesting regarding Deans.

Kepu and Mowen had huge games for Randwick, though it looks as if Kepu is far from healed, he was down a few times holding his calf/ankle during the game but played out the 80 minutes, but as posted on the Shute Shield thread he totally dominated Fairbrother in the scrum and his ability to get over the gain line was amazing and carried like a number 8. In fact if Palu and McCalman were injured a good left field choice as number 8 to get you over the gain line every time would be Kepu.

Mowen also made very good yards around the park and was totally assured at the back of a dominant scrum. Mowen's defense was also top class and together with Kepu, Takeiaho and Cummins completed a lot of dominant tackles.

Of note was the performance of the Randwick Lineout against Manly who I expected to dominate in this phase given their overwhelming height advantage. Randwick turned over at least 5 throws and won their own ball fairly comfortably. Peterson (who has been spoken about for eventual higher honours) didn't feature against unknown (outside Shute Shield regulars) opposition in the set peice or other aspects.

I think though the RWC squad is set in Deans mind and what we have seen this year will be trotted out next year including of course the certain starters not there due to injury (Palu, Alexander, TPN and Ioane). I do not think Hynes will make it nor will any of those I mentioned above (unless we have another injury run like this year).

You think Shepherd will make it ahead of Hynes? Any particular reason?

No. As Konze said, I didn't mention him, he was part of the squad this year when not injured but didn't get a run at all. I think the squad will be players who ran in tests this year + those certain starters injured which I listed. I don't think anybody else will get a gig except maybe another prop.

What happened to my quotation marks gags? I recorded it so was able to directly quote RD once I'd waded through the background noise and the ground announcer shouting about meat raffles.

I had to extract your text from whatever fucked up piece of software makes a .wps file - it looked like code from the matrix

microsoft works word processor? ok, it is a giant piece of shit, I'll save them as .doc from now on, want me to send through the article again?

God knows why it decided to delete my dingo quotes and apostrophes though

Mowen had a good game but still gets dominated in tackles too easily. I'm sick of seeing lightweight backrowers at No8 for the Wallabies (Hoiles, Brown). We need some GRUNT off the back of the scrum.

I'm starting to think we should freeze all the decent players in vats. Put them away, not to be opened until September '11.
While they're there, I can start the cloning experiment ;)

Possibly a dumb question, but I take nothing for granted given Robbie's form. Did he happen to mention where he's planning to play Ben Alexander?

Can't say he mentioned it, but then again I didn't think to ask. I would think replacing KB (Kurtley Beale) at fb would be most likely

i think mcalman has been fantastic and palu certainly wont walk back into the position considering how long hes been out

Palu will walk right back in, We are in need of some go-forward and like mentioned before: players that arent dominated in the tackle and can actually make some yards. McCalman is a decent back-up as it looks like he won't disgrace himself and will work his ass off.

The problem for me however is who should be back-up Hodgeson or McCalman? Dont think there is room for both on the bench once Palu is fit.
