Ben Alexander is back running and completed a 2km time trial this week.
He may play for 20 mins this weekend in a game for Eastwood depending how the knee recovers from the run.

fan-bloody-tastic. Pity club season finishes soon. Would be great for the likes of Rodney Davies, Ben Alexander, Pete Kimlin, Van Humphries et al to be playing some sort of footy whilst the remainder of the tri-nations is on.

Anybody know how Kimlin went for Wests in Canberra on the weekend?

I'm not really expecting great things at this stage though...

Word I got from a mate that plays for Wests said that he was looking a little sluggish around the park. I'm assuming he's really just got to start a thorough conditioning programme again and get some game time under his belt. He's been out for a pretty long while.

Good news about Alexander but I trust that he wont come back too early.

I would rather he not go on the EOYT if it meant therefore there was no risk from the old injury in 2011.

Completely agree Lee. I would add Horwill and Palu to the list to be left behind.

Slipper should be the first choice THP for the EOYT.

Here's hoping. And also hoping that a third tighthead prop is taken, someone like Palmer (or is he loose?) .

He plays both but is a bit of a potplant around the field. Hopefully Laurie Weekes is forgiven and goes on tour. If they do take a development prop hopefully it will be Dane Tilse as he impressed me when he played S14 this year and has done a good job playing for uni as well.

Why was Weeks dumped? I know he had a pretty average game, but Ma'afu was god awful (and still is). But Weeks wasnt given the opportunity to improve like Ma'afu was.
And if we are going to go for another tighthead, why not consider Fairbrother. he will be solid in the scrums, and is only 28 so has 5 odd years left in him.

I believe I saw Ben Alexander in Castle Hill today; looked pretty trim!

Is hoiles still injured?

I'm watching wallabies v All blacks in 06, when we beat them in melbourne, and hoiles is doing a cracking job off the bench. I would have thought he would be in the squad at the moment, he would definatly add alot of much needed maturity coming off the bench for the final 25 mins.

Alexander eyes end to decade drought

BEN ALEXANDER had to think back 10 years to when he last played in a championship team - to the under 15s.

When the Brumbies front-rower played 30 minutes for Eastwood in their 95-10 win over bottom of the table Parramatta at TG Millner Field on Saturday that secured them the Shute Shield minor premiership with a round to go, he felt an added dose of satisfaction.

While Alexander felt he only played a bit part in his first game back since being sidelined with a right knee injury, which required surgery, when playing for the Wallabies against Fiji in June, deep down, the 25-year-old knows it was anything but in the grand scheme of things. By surviving those 30 minutes unscathed, the mobile prop will have reassured the Wallabies selectors that if he can carry on through the Shute Shield finals series, he should make the Wallabies' spring tour.

Alexander is taking a cautious stance on those odds, and is focused on doing all he can to help Eastwood add a Shute Shield title to the minor premiership.

"It was a good game to come back to. I blew out a few cobwebs," he said. "The back is a bit sore, just getting back into the scrummaging side of things, but the fitness feels good. I just have to work on the timing of my defensive work and timing at the breakdown.

"I have to start putting some hours into that, now that my knee is fine to be doing all that sort of stuff."

So, what of his personal championship drought? "I haven't been a part of anything that has won for a while - a grand final-winning side or premiership side - for a number of years," Alexander said. ''Under 15s …

"It was nice to knock over the minor premiership. We have a tough game this week [at second-placed Southern Districts] … then we have a week off, which will give me time to do a bit more on my fitness after a couple of games under my belt.

''Then we launch into that preliminary final and hopefully the final. So get on the spring tour I'll be match-fit.

"But I can't say I've contributed much to [Eastwood's] cause, playing 30 minutes out of the whole season. The boys have been doing a great job. It feels that something special is building this year, with the same guys over the last couple of years."

In other round 21 games, Sydney University (5th) defeated Eastern Suburbs (4th) 33-13; Warringah (7th) edged Northern Suburbs (9th) 37-30; Southern Districts (2nd) beat West Harbour (8th) 32-16; Randwick (6th) prevailed over Gordon (10th) 24-8; and Manly (3rd) defeated Penrith (11th) 33-17.

Valentine came off the bench for Randwick yesterday but I wouldn't be taking him on the EOYT. Is Kingi or J. Turner fit? They should be taken as developmental players. Burgess and Genia will share the test duties unless Genia needs time to get fit - there is something clearly wrong with him.

Note also Just from the Wicks - in addition to Hoiles being out, Mowen is injured as well (some kind of blood poisoning/boils) and Kepu is gone again with another foot injury. The wicks ran out 6th choice props in the Shute SHield yesterday and Mark Giacheri expressed concerns regarding the safety of the scrum given he really had no props and hookers left in the club to select as vitrually all were injured.
