As a head coach?but I actually think his record is pretty solid.
Yeah, originally when he's name was mentioned I nearly chucked up. But I have heard that England's rise under Eddie was due to his dev work. And then I just had a look at his club coaching record and it's actually pretty good.I can get behind this if there's truth to this part of the article;
Gutting the Reds entire coaching set up will be a huge disruption and we should not be entertaining for any of our Super Rugby clubs.
I can see Lancaster being given the reigns to the 2027 WC and then RA relooks at the Super Rugby coaches and their suitability.
My bad, I thought Cullen was an assistant under him. This changes things. As a head coach?
For England - zero 6 nations, out in qf of 2015 WC. Then off to assistant role under Leo Cullen at Leinster. Then back to HC role and sacked by Racing after only a couple of years winning ~35% of their games.
I must admit I'm always suprised by how often his name appears in these conversations given his record as HC.
Can we get Leo Cullen? If we were looking for an assistant coach at Wallaby level, I could get behind Lancaster based on what he did with Leinster.
MacDonald would be a good punt I reckon.RAs selection criteria should be
"Have you ever won a QF as a senior men's full time professional coach in the top division"
I'm not sure what your aim would be. MacDonald didn't set the world alight as a coach. He took on the Blues after they finally sorted out their top management and training setups so his results were better than his predecessors.MacDonald would be a good punt I reckon.
- Currently with Force so has acclimatized to Aus setup somewhat.
- Already worked with Schmidt.
- His Blues probably should have beat the Crusaders in 2022 final
- Sellable rivalry narrative between him and Razor
There's no silver bullet mate. Every candidate floated is a risk.I'm not sure what your aim would be. MacDonald didn't set the world alight as a coach. He took on the Blues after they finally sorted out their top management and training setups so his results were better than his predecessors.
From a distant perspective Australia need a coach that will be able to use Joe's work as a foundation then apply a style that suits the current talent. The reduction of Super teams will pay dividends at the Wallabies with increased player confidence and compatibility.
I would think that using a coaching team that knows the current players well, even if just for a short period would be the go. Select a coaching team just as you would a playing team and stop looking for a golden ticket coach.
Out in the pool stage of the 2015 World Cup, including a loss to a Welsh team playing a halfback on the wingAs a head coach?

Hard time imagining Lancaster is the wallaby candidate.
Granted his 2015 WC was ten years ago and he’s learned a lot so I won’t hold him to the fire for that now. People grow
That said - it would seem an odd choice a club coach without immediate recent success. Seems better suited as a super coach
Brave in the way people try to justify betting on a 25/1 horse when in reality you know deep down it's a Donkey.Lancaster would be a "brave" choice. Some would say (me amongst them) that it would be too brave.
Michael Cheika has seemingly been vetoed is a head scratcher for me
Don't understand what value Lancaster will provide, whilst I can understand not wanting to see a Cheika boom/bust period againStuart Lancaster being considered a candidate while Michael Cheika has seemingly been vetoed is a head scratcher for me
