Froggy

Nicholas Shehadie (39)
No 4918
Sio, Kepu, Holmes, Slipper, Smith
Moore, Hanson, TPN
Horwill, Simmons, Skelton, Douglas
Fardy, Pocock, Hooper, McCalman, Mumm
Phipps, Genia, White
Foley, Cooper
To'omua, Giteau, Kuridrani
Tomane, Mitchell, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Horne
Folau, Beale

Add McMahon, remove Genia, Speight for Tomane and I think that's it!

Ahhhh the old Vaea and Timani didn't get to play and look back. MUST be better then!

Would be stupid to take 5 locks leaving 2 back ups outside the 23 and not a single Hooker outside the 23. One late injury and your team won't meet WR (World Rugby) guidelines.

Ok, so Palu is the man hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I'll have a go at this game. Definitely not what I would have picked at the end of the S15 and there are players not in the squads selected for the tests just finished that I would have considered over those selected. I have confined myself to those already selected as I think that is where the entire 31 man squad will come from.

LHPs - Slipper, Sio
Hookers - Moore (c), TPN, Hanson
THPs - Kepu, Holmes, Weeks (if injured Smith)
Locks - Skelton, Simmons, Horwill, Mumm
Backrowers - Pocock, Hooper, Fardy, McCalman, McMahon
9s - Phipps, White
10s - Foley, QC (Quade Cooper)
12s - To'omua, Giteau
13. Kurindrani
Wings - Mitchell, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper),Tomane
15s - Folau, Beale,

Utility Back - Horne to cover 13, 12 and wing.

For the last place I would look outside of the squads altogether and take Jones and play him against the USA.

If note Jones than again from outside the squads I'd go for Gill to ensure the Pooper like combinations can continue.

I do not see the need for a third 9 and Genia has been way off the pace for a couple of years now.

As for Lilo, I rate the impact and defence of Horne way above Lilo and he covers more positions as a utility bench player.

Nope. But not being there to fail doesn't automatically make a player better.

Just out of curiosity, how did Vara fare in games against the Waratahs for example?

I reckon that's about it except Beale will be #23 and Speight may be lucky to make it, although it's line ball out of him and Tomane. Ive also had a rethink and I reckon Dave Dennis will be better value in the coat and tie brigade than Palu. Not sure it will happen though.

I think the stocks in Higgers, Genia and Lilo all went up over the weekend, thanks to their absence.

It's a tougher squad to pick now than it was on Sat morning, but I'll have a crack. I think there are 36 in contention:

Props: Sio, Kepu, Slipper, Holmes, Smith, Faulkner
Hookers: Moore, TPN, Hanson
Locks: Simmons, Skelton, Horwill, Douglas, Mumm
Back Row: Fardy, Hooper, Pocock, McCalman, Higgers, Palu
Halfback: White, Phipps, Genia
Inside Backs: Cooper, To'omua, Giteau, Foley, Lilo
Outside Backs: Kuridrani, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Folau, Beale, Mitchell, Horne, Speight, Tomane

Which 5 to cull is harder. My hunch is they'll knock off Faulkner, Douglas, Higgers, Lilo and Tomane. Personally, I'd cut Smith, Palu, Cooper, Horne and Tomane.

Just wondering what people's thinking is behind taking Toby Smith as our fifth prop?

I would've thought Cheika would want a prop that can cover tighthead reasonably, and loosehead prop at a pinch given the lack of standout 3s on the fringes (see Alexander).

Not to mention he hasn't played a test; debuting him at a world cup is not the ideal situation.

All it would take is a late injury to Kepu or Holmes to really weaken our scrum, with Slipper - who has struggled in his preferred position of LH - or Sio being forced to play tighthead.

Even though Smith has been in form this year, and Faulkner is not really indispensable, at least the latter has predominantly played TH this year.

Yep - Dennis will make it before Vaea or Timani, and probably before Higgers. So, one of Skelton or Douglas to be dropped for another hooker (Hanson).

I do like the look of the backs squad, but unfortunately can't see Christian Lealiifano making it, though I'd very much like to see him there.

Do not understand people thinking Slipper and Sio can cover THP. They are now permanent LH, Chieka will not play any of them at THP at all period. Smith is a LHP has never played THP will most likely miss out to Faulker because unlike all the other props besides Kepu, Faulker is the only one with recent decent exposure to playing both sides of the scrum.

I agree. It'll either be Faulkner or Alexander.
Also, any chance we might see JOC (James O'Connor) back? Didn't Cheika say something a while ago like he needed to get his fitness/form up and he might get a look in. Besides AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), none of our wingers have looked especially great, so I'd be more than happy to go with Kuridrani, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Folau, Beale, Mitchell, Horne, JOC (James O'Connor) and Speight/Tomane.

JOC (James O'Connor) is world class, despite my misgivings about his off field attitude.

I wouldn't say I am surprised at how negative the reaction has been to Cliff Palu's match on Saturday because it is pretty standard fare amongst fans but I think he is being treated reasonably unfairly.

He was our top tackler in the first half and up until Coles' try against the run of play, our pack were certainly on top. I would have had him in our best couple of forwards in the first half.

I think his numbers from ForceFan's stats show that he did a fair bit in his time on the field, but it's the limited time we seem to be able to get from him that is problematic. If he was working at that rate for 55-60mins, it would be ideal. 35-40mins not enough, I feel.

I think he went OK initially. You can see by those ruck involvement stats that he drop off pretty heavily after the first 10 minutes. He failed to physically impose himself, as most of the big boys did.
Cheika has been managing him very carefully which would indicate that he will go.
This will be his swan song and its pretty much deserved.
When we come up against the ABs or Ireland then lets please start the Pooper with McCalman on the bench and give Cliff a rest.
