There's the issue of Folau in his way. I'm not sure Mogg would be so great on the wing.
Agree Moggs a FB not a winger.. his weaknesses and strengths seem to effect it. Hopefully shines next year and gets a gig against the french.

Always need a backup to izzy

I like the idea of Folau on the wing simply because it makes it harder to cover him without leaving gaps in the middle. He has also shown he is talented there and a good finisher, plus it makes it harder for the opposition to read a cross field kick and then to defend against it.

I think in form Mogg you may move izzy to the wing. Mogg has alot of ups. But strong in defence aint one.

But Izzy is amazing and fully deserves 15.

I agree that Folau earned 15 well and truly - but I wouldn't have said Folau was particularly strong in defence either. Besides that one try saver on the EOYT where he bundled someone in to touch I don't think Folau has shone defensively at all in his time for the Wallabies - one on one or in cover defence.

Not that I'm having a go at him at all, and I agree Folau should be picked over Mogg at fullback. I was thinking about how to fit all our weapons on the park at the same time, and if indeed Mogg could be considered a weapon by 2015.

Are we stronger with IF on a wing & Mogg at 15, than IF at fullback with the best 2 wingers?
I don't think so.
Don't pick Mogg until he is the best available in whatever position he is selected.

See thats the question are we. You say no I think we could be.

Im not saying we should go that way but to rule it out is dumb

I agree I want them botg out there Mogg has enough upsides to fit him in the kicking speed is amazing.

When I say defense I mean in a tackle in contact Moggs been weak. . Izzy may miss read a tackle but he isnt weak. But Moggs gotten better last 2 years and 2014 will be bwtter again with a none fucked shoulder.

But the bith have things you want.

Fact Mogg can bomb to 2 metres out of the 22 and izzy coild take it...

I'd prefer 14 Folau, 15 Foley to 14 Folau, 15 Mogg until Mogg learns to tackle.

This thread is seriously raising my blood pressure. If Folau continued in the same vein as he played on the EOYT for the next couple of years he would probably be the greatest ever Wallaby Fullback. At times he looked like a man playing against boys. This all in his first year of professional rugby not taking into account any improvement yet there is talk of him being moved??? for Mogg and now foley Wow!

8 weeks?
In 2 weeks time, this thread will light up with 8 Tah's backs ( yep including the super sub KB (Kurtley Beale)) considered certainties for Wallaby selection after they give to the Rebels at Albury.

Moving Folau to wing to accommodate Mogg creates a liability rather then an overall improvement, the only chance Mogg has for game time is if Folau gets injured.

So what are the issues with Mogg on the wing?

He's a (perceived) defensive liability, and "not strong enough".

Is there anything else? Because it would seem that those two flaws are ones easily improved upon with some applied training, especially if it would mean a starting position for a World Cup.

Think the issue is that his best position is fullback where he is no 2 in the country. He isnt a specialist winger (can cover there from the bench) as it currently stands there are quite a few good options out there for the wing. Whats wrong with the incumbents used on the tour?

tomane
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
cummins

Were all very, very good there.

throw in the mix O'connor and speight. He is up against it but thats not to say given an opportunity through circumstance he cant ake the position his own

If you were able to easily improve a players body mass/power and defence without adversely effecting other parts of his game like speed, acceleration and agility then you would be well sort after.

I know what you mean, and I agree with you - mostly. I just had a look at how fast he actually was, and I saw that he runs 10.06 m/s, which I make to be approximately a 10.6 second 100 m time.

For relativity's sake, Lachie Turner was crowned Australia's fastest footy player at an event in 2010, and he ran a 11.1

Even more impressive is the fact that Carlin Isles, the US 7s player who is the "worlds fastest rugby player" runs a 10.58 100 m time.

This guy can also boot the absolute shit out of a footy.

I could waste another 20 minutes of my life looking up how quick the other wingers are, but I know they aren't that close to that.

Sorry to labour the point, but I didn't know he was that fast..

I'm not saying it should happen but Mogg at fb with izzy and speight could be our best combination. Folue will never be our best ever fullback till he can kick tactically. .
