Also Harris's kicking style is well suited to the conditions, drilling low reduces the affect of the wind.

Im happy with that half. All the rookies are playing well. I think this is the most controlled game I have ever seen Timani play, a few yips, but nothing to bad. Palmer has worked out his opponent pretty quickly and is providing a solid anchor the scrum. Dennis and Higginbotham are also playing a very controlled tight game, getting good work done.

One of the better season opens from the Wallabies I have seen in a while.

Yep, for a scratch team with 3 days prep, they have been better than I expected, and weathered a rough storm. Now use the advantage well.

I've got the sky broadcast and the talking point was that Australia were a bit crafty in the scrums in that first half, although he didn't go so far as to call illegal tactics. If anything the Scot LHP Grant was boring in on Palmer.

Not a bad performance by Aus to keep the score 3-6 at halftime into such a strong wind. They were more impressive as the game went on. It's just a pity they don't have a natural kicked at fly half to really take advantage of the conditions.

From the pack those who would be expected to start against wells have looked good, none of the others have really stood out so far to put a big claim for a start jersey on Saturday, but that could change in the 2nd half. For the backs it's a case of trying not to stand out so far, as those that have stood out have been for mistakes with Genia being the biggest culprit. Haven't been impressed by Barnes' decision making at 10. Ioane looks sharp and Morahan has looked willing to chase and that could be a big plus in the 2nd half with the win. Aus never look too spectacular in the centres these days.

From Scotland's point of view they made so many mistakes it's hard to see how they will be able to retain the ball long enough to establish field position in the 2nd half. Lamont off is a bit of a blow from them, but he's part of a phenomenon of modern rugby, the brittle big winger.

English SkySports commentators saying at half-time that there's no one smarter than the Australians at how to get out of scrums with a clean sheet, and the only reason there aren't more penalties is because the rookie ref isn't getting involved in the details

Do you think the players will be skipping the ice baths after the match tonight?

I wonder if some people have already been told they are likely to be playing on Saturday?

Bravo to all the spectators.

It would be bloody miserable for them.

Lots of tradies hi-vis wet weather gear on show.

Level of footy isn't too bad considering the conditions.

Too much aimless kicking.

See the goal posts swaying?? It's a gale alright... Scotland are going to get caned from here on.

The only time Australia really got close to the line in the first half, Scotland started giving away penalties in quick succession...

Yep, they should resist the urge to try too much fancy play. Grind them down with territory and take the mistakes.

Turn over to Scotland there, Barnes' dummy wasn't exactly subtle. Need better execution or they'll use up the clock and keep Scotland in the game.
