Robertson will get a run on, and it is between Timani and McMahon for the bench back row spot

Speight in, Mitchell out.

Simmons in, Douglas out.

Slowly but surely getting to our best side. Chieka loves baby steps but at least we're moving in the right direction.

Bernard Foleys back is at the top of my wishlist, but that - like dropping Hooper - isn't ever going to happen under Michael Cheika

I wonder what the rationale was behind swapping Douglas for Simmons? Might be just a case of a bit of rest?

I find it hard to believe the Wallabies will be able to match the Pumas, definitely the most improved side in the world this year, if they can come out of the blocks like they did against the AB's they will be damn near impossible to contain.

They dont seem to be a team that loses much playing away from home.

If both sides play at the standard they did last week, I think it will be the Pumas by 10 at least, the Wallabies will have to show some real improvement to challenge.

Wow - Simmons for Douglas. Didn't see that one coming. I thought after last week Simmons was historical interest only.
He came out firing after his last stint on the pines.
Hope he and speight play like their careers depend on it. Which they probably do..

I am not against the dropping of Douglas, I think he has been off his game and there were some glaring examples of this. Look at his defensive effort when Whitely scores - just soft. And that lineout with Taf, but hard to say who's fault that was.

Just staggered it is Simmons back. Perhaps Chek just didn't want two rookie locks, but I would've chucked Arnold in to start.

Cheika seems to love dicking Simmons around.

Actually on 2nd thoughts he just doesn't see him (or Douglas it seems) as impact bench players. I'd agree with that.

I think that's closer to the best combination. Simmons played pretty well in the RWC. If he can maintain that form/2013 form I think him and Coleman is a better combo.

Coleman is a better version of the role Douglas is supposed to fill. I think Douglas impact is nowhere near enough of somebody getting through the work he does. Coleman is running and tackling more in 55 mins per game than Douglas is across 80. He also offers less in the line out.

Even Douglas ruck involvement is only marginally better. Comparing the last 2 games he's had 58 in 160 minutes vs Coleman's 38 in 110 minutes.

That's a ruck every 2.75 minutes vs Coleman every 2.89.

Now perhaps Coleman's work rate would drop over 80. But he's still running more, with more impact and defending more with more impact to make up for the couple of less rucks he might hit over the course of 80 minutes.

Would like to see Fardy over Mumm as statistically speaking, Mumm offers less in every single facet (tackles, runs, m per run, tackle %) other than penalties per game, where we are talking about 1 penalty every 2nd game.

First thought, How on earth did Simmons get back in?

Second thoughts, well stats suggest he's performing better then Douglas, plus Douglas may have been identified as a weak-link in the line-out.

So fair call.

But still, long term I hope Douglas finds form and gets back in the team.

The same Simmons that has been outplayed recently in the NRC?
What am I missing?

The same one who outplayed Douglas in most Test's this year. Douglas is struggling to return from injury.

But yeah, still very uninspiring seeing him back. We know what Simmons brings and it's not quite enough.

Put any Wallaby lock that eats his meat and potatoes first in the NRC and they'll get outplayed by every other lock in the competition.

Most of the NRC sides are playing their tallest backrower in the 2nd row.

Locks that are massive ball-runners are the go in the fast-paced NRC. Douglas, Coleman, Arnold and Simmons would (and, for a few of them, are) particularly ineffective.

I wonder who will call the lineout then. Would really like to see Coleman continue to call and develop at test level but I suspect Simmons will come in and call everything to himself as always.

Er, did you watch Arnold in the NRC?

Gaff perhaps Simmons will call to others now that he has real alternative options and the opposition doesn't have 4 or 5 potential defensive jumpers?

You can only criticize Simmons calling to himself if he wasn't retaining it. Wasn't it every time he didn't call to himself we lost it?
