Suddenly you wake up, it's the morning of the Scottish test. You have no memory of convoluted eligibility rules or SRU being a bag of poaching fluffybunnys. Your 50 test cap inside center is Sione Tuipulotu who captains the Rebels for their record breaking 8th consecutive championships. You still have your hair. All is right in the world.

Edmed is the only one out of the original 34 player group that hasn’t been selected yet. The fact he has played Uru, Tizzano and Potter gives me the feeling he will pick edmed off the bench for this one to give everyone minutes. Not saying jerseys should just be handed out to everyone but I am sure he would like to have a look at him in action.

Otherwise it was a big wasted opportunity not to send him to play the Australia XV games
With the grand slam no longer an option he may well give Edmed a run, but I'm not sure your logic follows - Uru came in for Wilson's injury and Potter for Pietsch's (personally I also generally rate Potter over Pietsch as a winger, and think if not for injury he might have been ahead of him from the start) so Tizzano was the only one of those players who wasn't the best available in his position for the week of the game.

As far as opportunities with Aus XV goes, I think it's pretty clear based on the selection they wanted Lynagh getting that game time against the England XV, given he's been preferred to Edmed for most of the year it doesn't really shape as wasted opportunity. At the end of the day much will probably come down to how he's looked in training and based on his super season being in the squad and training consistently was the only way he was going to justify a jersey.

I always find it funny when people talk about it being ridiculous that a guy named Tuipuloto is representing Scotland - is that not the most Scotish face you've ever seen? The man has legitimate (fantasy) Dwarven features. Then they go and trot out his Granny and if it was a movie you'd call the casting of someone so stereotypically Scottish a wee bit on the nose.

So

Why would Joe be reluctant to give Donno a start? He’s the best attacking 10 we have with a bigger boot. Has also played very few minutes on tour. I also think he has backed the wrong horse.
Joe's said in interviews that Noah controls the game better and has a better short kicking game. His clearly picked his horse and if we had gone with Donno I suspect right now everyone would be clammering for Noah.

And it's disingenuous to think if Donno played against Scotland we would have won. We got beat in the pack.

Wasn't Donno the fly half in the record lose to Wales at the world cup?

I think Donaldson played alright for the Force this year, but Lolesio had a stronger season and Schmidt sees him as his first choice flyhalf, and has persisted with him all year for every important test...

Aside from a bit more pace, I don't see any characteristics in Donaldson's game that are definitively stronger than Lolesio's.

Ultimately, I doubt Lolesio is going to be dropped after his performance in the Scottish game for what will be their biggest test of the tour this weekend.

But hey, we've got how many days of until the next test to speculate?

An adult sized punt?

I know as a Brumbies fan you are legally obliged to defend him no matter what, but getting to watch guys like Marcus Smith & Finn Russell etc. the complete gulf in talent and ability between them and Lolesio is just jarring. He's undersized for an international, below average speed, very weak punt and not great on the tackle. It's not his fault, he's just not really talented in any way. He's just lucky he plays in such a loaded Brumbies team

Donaldson might not be it either, but he has the profile that there is at least a chance he can develop. He has good speed, a good passing game while taking the ball to the line and a massive boot. If he was given the amount of time in the saddle that Noah has been, he might have actually developed into a world class player

We obviously don't have a flyhalf of the calibre of Marcus Smith and Finn Russell, currently two of the best international flyhalves in world rugby, who are both, according to your criteria, undersized for an international...

I'm sure if Lolesio's sole credentials were being behind a strong Brumbies pack, then why has Schmidt persisted with him and not Donaldson?

There could be a clue in the second Argentina test...

Just on that, I have it from a reliable source that a lot of the players were quite ill and that a forfeit - although obviously not seriously considered - was seen as the only alternative to what eventually transpired. It makes sense given how good we were in the first 20 minutes and that a couple of players e.g. Jorgensen were stood down for a lengthy period afterwards.
