I have a couple of issues with Rennie's selections particularly with the make up of his bench.
Again he selects a 5/3 bench with two of the 3 backs being one position players.
Lolesio should only be selected as a starting 10 should never be selected from the bench same as Foley.
I don't care which of them starts as I think it is a 50/50 call but pick one and tell him he is playing 80 minutes.
Have someone else in the side who can cover in the case of an injury (e.g. Hodge or Campbell) but don't have two payers in the 23 who can only play 10.
I would have started Tupou and Skelton as I think we need impact from the start plus Big Will has shown he is ineffective coming off the bench.
Wright and Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) should not be starting together, I want one solid winger and one burst player.
The wings in my opinion should be Kellaway and one of either MN or TW.
I would also start with FF (Folau Fainga'a) over Porecki as I think they are both equally poor at the line out, but who in Aus isn't, and FF (Folau Fainga'a) is a better pilferer and I think when you a have Hooper at 7 you need someone else in that role at the breakdown.
I cannot see any area of the game where we will out perform the Irish.
I think our scrum will get monstered and I think the Irish will absolutely rodger us raw at the breakdown.

That reminds me. My brother did one of those DNA ancestry test things. 87% Irish apparently. Assuming my brother is in fact related to me by blood (i have my doubts) we can conclude that I too support Ireland.
The real question is do you drink Guinness during the game?

My sister has become an expert at this ancestry business. Apparently she and I have strikingly different ancestries but we are definitely the son and daughter of the same parents.

A missed lineout is a missed lineout. Because it’s with 5 minutes left and we’re chasing the game is irrelevant.
I have never read a post so far from the reality of a game (any game) in my life. The lineout that could win you the game is worth 1000%+ more than one in in the first 5mins.

The pressure is the at the end because of the inaccuracies of the start. Because we’re almost always chasing the game.

and let’s be honest. The team that fucks up less, wins far more games.

I’ll go with the bloke who misses less throws and gives less PKs away while also being a more physical player. But hey. That’s a pretty out there idea.
MATW. I understand your point but it has never stood up in any game I have played in or ref'd.
Forget what happened before it is the scoreboard now that counts. Do you think the AB's behind the Wallabies by more than a penalty would give a rats about a lineout at the start? No! they would be totally focused on getting this one right and winning the game.
Faianga'a seems to want to speed it up. It's a hookers equivalent to a kick in front of the post to win and the kicker wandering up taking a swing and a miss due to overconfidence.
I'm with a few others here start FF (Folau Fainga'a) and finish with Poreki as he is less likely to throw a horror show to contribute to a loss than FF (Folau Fainga'a). FF (Folau Fainga'a) is better in some ways that are useful at the start ie picking up tries, from mauls and broken play.

I’ll just shut my mouth and take my opinion/experience elsewhere.

Nah I see your point of your view, maybe there wouldn't be a crucial must-win line-out in the last 5minutes of a game if we didn't miss that line-out throw in the first 5 minutes, maybe we'd be ahead on the scoreboard. But it's one of those things you can't really prove 100% either way.

I think in rugby though, especially with how competitive it is at the moment, there are more and more of those 'must-execute' moments. And certain players are much better at dealing with the pressure then others.

It's like that 'last pass' we always seem to mess up to score a try.

I’ve said from the start I don’t have the answer. I raised these to ask why we go after FF (Folau Fainga'a) but talk about how accurate DP is when “statistically” it’s not correct.

australian rugby has a massive skill execution under pressure issue. We make so many opportunities every game then shit the bed. Choices errors and discipline kill us nearly every game.

I can’t help but think a lot of it is between the ears.

Couldn't agree with you more. Our players have become worse in the smarts department. I could be uncharitable and say that they're getting stupider, but that would be unkind.

I actually think part of the problem is that they might be over coached and lack the ability to play what's in front of them (paging Robbie Deans!). Our great players of the past were able to take good options when under the pump (George, Noddy, NFJ, Eales, Morts, Burke etc) or have very well developed rugby instincts (Campo, Bernie). Where is that rugby IQ now?

To bring it back on topic, I struggle to see that kind of nous or leadership across the park this weekend. The current group are prone to colossal brain explosions when things get tough.

You don't lose a game because of your wingers. Look at your next rival, they pick Hansen at the wing, a guy who couldn't make the Brumbies starting XV. If your forwards are beaten at the piggies battle, the winger don't touch the ball so it's probably one of the less important positions (Sometime I played at the wing lol)

I'm more concerned about the breakdown battle. There's where you lose or win a test match like this

Filth and lies.

These days, particularly with prevalence of the box kick and up and under in midfield, the effectiveness of the back three often determines field position. And field position is half the battle.

Edit: plus Wright and Campbell being unable to make a simple tackle cost us an epic win.

I can't see the solid winger in OZ squad. The only starter wing for me is Koroibete. He can't kick to be fair but instead of that he can run through any man lol The other options are pretty much at the same level

Tom Wright is the best example, in one game he's Lote Tuqiri and the next game he's Mauro Bergamasco

I agree with you mate. Think your points are valid and well thought out.

What happens if you lose 2 line outs in the 1st 20 mins of a game which you would have scored off? You go from being 14 points up with score board pressure to having to chase the game. Not sure how people can't understand this. A loss at the start of the game could well have more impact on the rest of the game than a loss at the end.

Koro actually has a BIG boot and has shown it a few times this year. I'd like to see him use it a little more as it is another string to his bow and puts the back 3 in doubt. They tend to kick to him because they knew he would always run it back, that boot can screw with opposition tactics .

A big boot and a tactical boot are different things
