Congrats Sam Carter, I'm a fan and called him a smokie early in the WW thread.

Higginbotham is the only omission of note, not that it is a bad one.

Props on the bench don't fill me with confidence. Good team otherwise.

Zero surprises in the backs, both starting and bench really. Surprised Carter started but he has been playing well, more surprised at McCalman and Horwill on the bench, not exactly impact players. Not a bad team otherwise.

No rebels. Ouch :(

They aren't 'impact' players in the x-factor fashion and it obviously signals want Link wants. Forwards that do their job, work hard and make 'impact' in less obvious ways. I like it.

McCalman has probably had more impact in terms of the sort of impact a forward should make this year than Higginbotham.

He's been aggressive and run and tackled with purpose.

Very disappointing to see no Rebels. Would've thought Jones had done enough.

Higginbotham is understandable as his discipline has been atrocious. Should have at least made the bench.

Real buzzkill of an announcement.

I like McCalman don't get me wrong, can cover the whole backrow really. Not sure we need the impact of not getting over the advantage line and stone cold dropping the ball with Horwill though.

Just a bitter Luke Jones fan ;)

Sio maybe a victim of the Brumbies scrum getting consistently dusted up, or maybe he'll get a shot in the next game.

Like the team, Carter has deserved a start.

10 X Tahs, 7 X Brums, 3 X Reds, 3 X Force, 0 X Rebels

I don't mind Cowan over Sio, he's been very good lately and Link mentioned his maul defence as a standout. He's also been getting through plenty of tackles.

Jones' last 2 matches probably cost him where as Carter's were very good.

McCalman is more versatile makes sense. He plays very tight like Palu and will probably replace him.

I finally got to watch the Tahs v Rebels, and have no problem with Higgers' omission. When his team is playing positively, he's great to watch. But otherwise he's a penalty magnet and just goes in to niggle, not achieve much.

McCalman probably fits what Link wants right now.

I'm also shocked Jones didn't get a shot, but maybe next Test.

Don't base you're view of one player on one single game or anything there DVH.

McCalman was good for impact off the bench last year.

As for Horwill, he's not really an impact player. But no player who is a good lock is really an impact player. You'd have to go for somebody like a Skelton, where you sacrifice core duties to get a real impact.

Braveheart81 mentioned on the other thread that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) has more caps the rest of the back line combined, which surely puts to rest any speculation as to why he got a VC job.

McCabe on the bench over Horne is a good pick. He can play 11-15 and is an equally good defender. Like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) who has defied the "doesn't pass" myth this season, McCabe has been anything but a plodder.

I reckon it's a strong team, able to play a mix of tight, disciplined rugby but with skilled players across the park who will seize any opportunity.

Daz let's face it, Jones is the only person who could say his form is better than a player picked ahead of him, and I imagine his omission is more to do with how he fits into the team and the required role.
