Overall that's not a bad looking team. I'm sure we'll be seeing that team win us at least 1 or 2 games. 2 games would be an improvement.

Isn't it funny what 4 months makes. 4 months ago, Australia was seen as a chance of winning the Tri-Nations. 4 months later, we are back to square one.

No real surprises by Deans & Co, most changes had been reported in the media over the last few days (leaked maybe?). Lack of big backs, besides AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), a concern.

Mitchell's woeful defensive errors have finally cost him. Amazed he still wasn't in the squad, though. I thought one of Turner or Mitchell would make it; maybe one of them will be included at a later date (if they are still accessing Shepherd's club form?). Hynes, Turner and Mitchell have done little since the end of the S14 season, and all 3 had good to great S14 seasons. But it's impossible for us to know how they are training right now. Anyway, regarding Mitchell, we can only hope he learns - because his defensive errors mostly result from laziness and lack of commitment - something he definately does not suffer from when he runs the ball.

Douglas is no surprise; he got little chance in the Baabaas and didn't do too well with what he got. The selectors gave Simmons more of a chance, and I thought that Simmons was one of the better forwards in the woeful second Baabaas game (along with McCalman). Again, it's hard to tell how Douglas and Simmons have been training, like Lee said, but I think the current assessment of Douglas (and Simmons) around here tends to be more on potential then actual delivery, as of yet. I said it before, but if Caldwell never got sick and had the form of last year again, I think he'd be selected ahead of both of them and I'd be happy to see a fully fit and tough Caldwell with Sharpe in the second row.

Looking at the player profiles, Higgers has dropped some weight. He is listed at only 100kg.

So im assuming he wants to see Shepherd at least complete a game of rugby, any other players returning from injury?

or perhaps even overseas? his not surely considering Rodney Blake is he?

Blake is playing LHP for West Harbour so that is unlikely, if they need another THP at least stick one in that can scrummage like Fairbrother or Palmer

i would have said unlikely as well, however the article the other day indicated he was a option, surprised he is playing LHP, he was playing THP when he left Australia, i didnt keep tabs on him in France though.. Maybe Deans will request that Blake gets some playing time at THP in the second half to assess his suitability.

obviously a typo, his more around the 110kg, if not more at the moment since his probably spent most of his time doing weights and not much cardio the last couple of months

Mitchell may just take that last spot then.

If that is even a remote possibility surely he would have been named. He's goneski for mine unless he's under some injury cloud.

Makes way for Shepherd, which is a smart move.

Hynes can play on the wing with Diggers. Horne isn't ready IMO for 3Ns as a centre, so they need AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to play there for the whole campaign.

Rabbit is a bench option.

The pressure of the selection Ant Fainga'a a specialist 12 on Giteau will be enormous. Will he be able to respond is the big question.
I think he has the first game in Brisbane to show his metal and if he doesn't perform then in comes Ant.

Just bring Anthony Fainga'a straight in and get it settled. We need to get the backline coherent sooner rather than later.
