Good team, although he'll pick Beale, I reckon. If that starting team was picked, I reckon you wouldn't have Maddocks and Koroibete on the bench, but replace one with Beale for utility. I reckon Tupou will be in the 23 too.

In the interview after, chek seemed to indicate he wanted to pick peter Samu but was blocked, wonder if it was contractual issues with nzru or some policy with aru

So Tui gets picked in the backrow just cause literally no one else.

I don't really understand why NZRU would block it besides money. Which is pretty disappointing considering we are in dire straits, need a win and they are willing to use our squad situation to hold us ransom. If true of course.

Pretty questionable stuff.

Don’t understand the hold up. Pick him and let NZ deal with it, pretty clear re Shields and world rugby rules, re teams must make players available for internationals.

That was my understanding to - I thought the NZRU had to release him?

Otherwise, literally the exact squad I would've picked. I'm chuffed and think we'll be competitive against Ireland. It'll be 2-1, I just don't know which way the 2-1 will fall.

Think NSW have played some of thier best rugby this year recently without Hanigan, whats the justification for his selection?

As a Tahs fan, let me say:

And hence NZRU's position on Samu sums up why we should be dealing with Twiggy for a domestic indo comp then a trans tasman competition as nz won't put aside their own vested interested to make the latter work...whilst Twiggy be pro oz of course will.......

I'd wager that Samu will be released within a week. There's no reason for the NZRU not to release him. He's an Australian, who will be playing in Australia from next year, and isn't in line for All Blacks selection.

For me the only real question is if the NZRU will be looking to extract payment from the ARU as they, supposedly, did form Scrooge McRFU. Personally, I hope they don't.

Without knowing exactly what contract he has signed, he probably commited to NZ with his crusaders contract and they don't have to release him during that contract.

Samu presumably agreed that he would not be available for Australian selection

Player availability in circumstances of dual eligibility

9.38 When a Union enters into a written agreement with a Player that contemplates the Player representing that Union at senior or next Senior Fifteen-A-Side National Representative Team level (whether at fifteen-aside or seven-a-side Rugby), the Union may seek the Player’s written agreement that the Player shall not be available for selection, attendance and/or appearance in a National Representative Team or National Squad of another Union during the term of that written agreement,

Most pleasing part is quite a lot of talent wasn’t selected (or were injured) like:

Latu
Phillip
Valetini
Gordon
Perese
ASY (Angus Scott-Young)
Samu
Dempsey

But you wouldn’t say any of those guys were especially hard done by. Not expecting us to set the world on fire immediately but things are looking up.

Not sure why he rates Powell so highly. Most people I saw wanted gordon or ruru ahead of him.

Great to see maddocks, tupou and banks, they are the future.

Not sold on Hanigan, Simmons, Robertson.

Joe Blow

John Hipwell (52)
No TPN available either but I like the hookers he has selected.

Backrow is thin on lineout ability as expected. I see Samu as a Hooper/Pocock type player and think we really need another Fardy type 6 soon more than that.
Hope to see Maddocks get into the 23. Good to see all that speed available.
This is a very organised and efficient Irish side and we will need to play exceptionally well to have any chance of winning. Folau. Beale, Maddocks and Hooper will be the guys to really put them under the pump.
