Actually southsider it reeks of a Union that crosses the t' etc etc, what do you imagine happens if Samu gets injured playing for Wallabies re his contract with Crusaders? That was apparently main hold up with Shields too, they wanted to make sure he was covered!

Whoops just read WOBs reply which pretty much covers it!

ARU: hey NZRU we’ve picked Samu who you are never gonna pick as an AB anyway

NZRU: sweet as cuz, choice pick. If he gets injured you’ll pay his bills right?

ARU: yes NZRU

/scene.........that fucking simple

I thought Naivalu was lucky, but he does have jet shoes
Ive seen him run down alot more then I expected for someone who was suppose to be so fast.. I'd say Banks Jets him these days. But his big strong fast (enough) and never looked out of place at test level.

So Ned H is unavailable is it?

Well Lukhan Tui hasn't been named in the Reds team and his club side is on a bye this week. So don't expect him there.

It leaves the 8 Timu (on the bench for the Reds) 7 Hooper 6 Pocock as the likely combo (or swapping Timu and Pocock). #Poopermu

Gee, who knew contract law with principal parties in different countries & concerning a third party was so straight forward. No wonder there's so few lawyers specialising in it........

Yeah this was exactly my conclusion when I saw the back row he'd announced. They've gotta be playing Pooermu... But they Cheika might play Simmons at 6 #DeanMumm2.0
But who is our back row option on the bench (assuming we don't have Samu given it's yet unconfirmed).

Tui will be the bench backrower if Samu can't be selected.

So, basically we are stuck with a 5 forward bench right? No Arnold or Hanigan for the first test.

That means

4. Coleman
5. Rodda
6. Pocock
7. Hooper
8. Timu

19. Simmons
20. Tui

Am i missing someone?

If Hooper or Poey go down we are in some serious trouble.

I like Tui, he could litterally be the solution to all our back row problems!

I would much rather have someone who has played some rugby. (I can believe I'm saying this!) I'd almost prefer to see Simmons on the bench, at least along side Tui to help share that load. The joy of starting Rodda and Coleman is they'll go for 90 if you let them!

I'm pretty sure they'd play with a broken leg if we'd let them.
But the Brumbies have a few options who could step up. Also I think Angus Scott-Young could step up if needed, he's playing a really nice general back rowers game at the moment as well as being a very serviceable line-out option.

It’s absolute rubbish that Cheika is hanging his only coat on the Pete Samu hook. Get the bloke in for the EOYT and see what he can do then. He is 100% unproven at the top level and is not the type of backrower the Wallabies need to balance out the squad right now.

My problem with it isn't that he's necessarily unproven it's that we'd be selecting him over someone who is playing Super Rugby for us now. If your one of those guys who were on the cusp of Wallabies selection, I think you'd quite fairly feel aggrieved by his selection.

Why? He's playing better than most of our loose forwards in super rugby and is Australian. I don't see how you can reasonably be aggrieved if someone better than you gets selected ahead of you.

It's not the conspiracy that concerns me Pfitzy, it's the sieve that that backline would offer to the opponent's attack.

He said, conspiratorially.

We have McMahon hopefully coming back in time for RWC selection alongside Hooper and Pocock. Timu is a little bigger and has the running game to at least match Samu. Timu will get much better quickly continuing his learning curve. We have Valetini coming through who will offer similar qualities.
Hanigan is improving but will most likely never be a world fifteen backrower. We need some genuine lineout dominating backrowers.
Cheikas time would be better spent trying to convince Fardy to re-sign next year or to bring on a taller prospect.

The two young Queensland Back rowers -- Angus Scott Young (having keep Timu out of the starting jersey this week) and Liam Wright (taken on EoYT last year) are showing a lot of potential, and Harry Hockings could do nicely as a makeshift Lock6.

There are also a few of guys for the 'Tahs and Brumbies who are looking good too.
