Wallabies 2025

Brumby Runner

Jason Little (69)
Larkham too is probably in the best position to move on from his current situation after 3 years (will be 4 after this season). Has taken the Brumbies to finals play-offs last 3 years and most likely to do so again in 2025. About the right time for both the Brumbies and Bernie to move on to new challenges. Can't say that either Kiss or McKellar are in that position.

You know what my problem with all the Super Rugby coaches Whose names have been put up for Wallabies coach?
None of them have won a fucking thing in all their time coaching. I think Kiss won a 6 nations as defence coach with Ireland. None of them have the runs on the board to run out national side despite plenty of chances.

Why is Larkham so out of the process?
Don't think he's out of the process. Not sure he's any more ready than the other domestic contenders. While the ponies have been the best of the Aussies they still have not delivered the goods in the finals. Same for the other 2.

Sure, otherwise there wouldn't be much point in having athletics coaches
Well, I would never have been an "athlete", no matter how well I was coached. My best friend , on the other hand, was a brilliant athlete, he could do just about anything.

I bet you could've shaved time off your 100m sprint or added distance to your long jump with the right coaching though. There's still a lot of technique in all the things that make up "athleticism" that can be (and are) coached.

But there is no doubt that the quality of the raw material is a lot more important than the quality of the coaching. My point was that the Argies seem to have a helluva lot of athleticism in their Sevens squad. I don't think you could persuade me that this is because they have better coaches.

It is because they don't have the NRL and AFL siphoning a lot of the athletic cream away (in the case of the NRL, kids as young as 14 are offered financial incentives to sign up).

If we’d had Schmidt for another year or two and we knew our team could be competitive with 90% of the top sides, then I’d be calling Cheika to win us a RWC.

Cheika can rally a good group of players to become world beaters for a specific function e.g. Lions tour or RWC. But he’s not the coach we want signing a 3 year contract and frankly I think RA will be wanting to sign someone to a 3-4 year deal so we don’t have this situation again so quickly.

I understand that Schmidt has indicated he might stay on in a consultancy role dependent on who is appointed as the coach. If this is true then I suspect RA will have this at front of mind in their selection process which may effectively rule some candidates out and others in.

DoR/Consultancy roles are just optics to soften the blow with the public who are concerned now.

The coach will be the coach and they need to be the right person.
