Wallabies 2024

It's a bit of a challenge. I think those three will go fine against Wales and Georgia, but come up against NZ and South Africa, and then the bigger teams up north, we would find ourselves in a Chiefs v Reds situation of being short of big bodies.
Agree, playing Wales this years is a win/lose situation. Wallabies will win the series and fans will believe last decade of shit results is behind them, only to come up against real opposition and get trashed again.

This is the worst Wales side in a long time, and I'm not that confident that we do beat them unfortunately. We should, easily.

I think the Wallabies will win it, Wales is poor and hasn't got a hope. There best placed team in the URC was 8th and got smashed in the QF.

Some good solid wins with some visible structure in attack and defence is what I'm looking for. I said it last year, but those poor lads during the RWC didn't even look like they knew where to stand in general play. It was so obvious that they had no clue what they were supposed to be doing and fixing that is the step change I want to see from Schmidt.

With Schmidt if your not standing in the right place, he will find someone that will. His going to be a complete monster for these guys, it's his way or the high way and attention to detail is key. He ripped into a Irish player for leaving his room key behind in camp, if you can't remember your key how can you remember our game plan.

I think Wales is the best rival for a completely new team in order to learn the game plan and test some players. Or you could start playing against Ireland or England and be crushed with no mercy

And that's what we need I think - a reset from the EJ (Eddie Jones) chaos. It's probably not sustainable in the long term but it'll do for now to get us back on the right path.

What does everyone think for the backrow

Valetini, wright and McReight should start

you need 2 7s in the wider squad so maybe Tizzano and then Cale and probably Hooper as a hybrid lock and 6
Suspect that's what Schmidt will go with for July. Agree on no need for two specialist opensides with Wright a good option.

I wouldn't mind seeing 6. Valetini, 7. Wright, 8. Cale later in the season, perhaps when Skelton is back in the mix.

I'm disappointed Swinton is not being considered. Had a solid season and is made for test footy.

Looks about right (perhaps ex. Muirhead)

I read that Jorgenson will be available for July. I dont think we should be rushing him back but makes the squad for me if fit.

Re. Muirhead I think he’s better than Ryan at this stage, Vunivalu, Peitsch and others but I wouldn’t have him in there for the TRC once Jorgensen is back and Petaia

I like your squad.

What are your thoughts on Canham? Too early?

Canham needs to be balanced: he needs the time in camp where he's training with and against the more "senior" bodies rather than just 1 senior partner (LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) or Phillip) and peers, and he needs as many first class fixtures as possible.

Presuming an announcement comes soon for his Reds move, I would hope he spends a huge chunk of time in camp, then gets releases for the reds various fixtures over the next 3 or 4 months.

Assuming the Rebs players get farmed out, who gets released from their clubs to fit them in? You dont need 7, 2nd rowers or four halfs who end up playing club footy.

I dunno, that's RA's and the surviving franchises problem.

There's clearly some intention of giving PONIs some degree of flexibility in where they will end up playing when they won't be in "direct" competition with with other PONIs.

I would not mind a loss as long as there are positive signs of cohesion and adherence to clear gameplan/style of play. Schmidt is probably not a forever coach like you said, but if he can lay a foundation like Brad Thorn did at the Reds I will be happy.

Build a system, pick players that fit defined roles, set a good standard for professionalism, and avoid the media sideshow the Eddie was so fond of. If that means a few players that look better on paper get left out then so be it.
