Relieving comments about Tupou getting more time at Sanctuary Cove under Rennie's watchful eye because of his injury.
“The Reds understood that he wouldn’t be back so our medical team has had control of him. We’ve had strength and conditioning up in Sanctuary Cove working with him and then we’ve flown them down here.

“He’s dropped some size, working really hard, he’s in a really good place mentally, really fresh. We were a bit anxious three weeks ago but we’re pretty confident we’ll get him there for the first Test.”

Also seems Holloway will get a shot at some point, whilst you'd imagine Leota is in pole position for 6:
“Rob Leota finished the season with us and he’s been excellent,” said Rennie.

“We’ve got Jed Holloway, who predominantly has played lock and he could play lock for us but he’s a genuine 6 option and he’ll push close.

“We’ve got some genuine competition for places. Jed’s played a lot of lock with the Waratahs – basically all season – but he’s definitely got the skill set to play 6 and 8 so, from my perspective, it gives us flexibility.”

Maybe Holloway will take Samu's supersub position. Having Holloway on the bench certainly frees up over positions.

Bit weird we got a Tupou update (and Holloway mention) yet not a Perese update given it's even more relevant with Ikitau's suspension.

I think both will be in the squad. Perese was likely fit for a semi final and Ikitau will almost certainly be available for the first test.

His three game suspension will be reduced to 2 with the World Rugby education bit for first time offenders and the second game will be either the Super Rugby grand final or the Tuggerong Vikings game next weekend.

Hes wrong about Holloway though, IMO. He's a pretty average backrower.

Starting to get hyped for the England series. We REALLY need to fucking win that thing.

Happy to hear about the trio of lads back from Japan for it too - we played our best footy last year with each of them in the side. Quade Cooper underplaying his hand and being the orchestra conductor hitting runners at multiple angles is exactly what we need and I feel that Kerevi will be a good match up for Farrell at 12 too.

More than anything I want to see total brutality in the pigs against that England pack. Blokes going low in the tackle, smashing rucks at pace and big boppers hitting a flat ball from depth.
Our record over last 8 years against England really been Shite so I for one not confident. I guess our chance becomes who they leave at home.

Saw Pone in the background of Tupou's boxing session at Rugby Australia headquarters so I'd expect he is in the squad.
I'm not sure that's too significant a guarantee, I'm sure they'd have at least some of the Australia A guys there at the moment. I'd expect that's a better use of his time then cooling his heels as 3rd string tight head in the main squad. That is a tough spot to fill, there's every chance the Australia A starter passes whoever does it (if they're not already higher in the depth chart) off the back of actual game time to show their stuff.

& a bite from it

Although Rennie is confident Tupou will be fit for the series opener against England on July 2 in Perth, it’s understood Rebels wrecking-ball Pone Fa’amausili is on standby should the ‘Tongan Thor’ not be fit.

He & Leota also did a podcast in sydney y day with YKTR, not sure if they went for that or did that because they were in sydney

Playing against England of Eddie Jones is always the same. Tactical and kicking game. OZ doesn't have reliable kickers like Pommies and they used to won the battle forwards. So those areas are the keys to beat them

Might be the Australia A squad - will be interesting who goes into which based on what Rennie was saying. Basically a "top 35" player may not actually be in the top 35, but in the next 30 so he can get more game time.

I am fairly sure Pone is already on standby as Taniela's partner is due to give birth the week after in Brisbane.
