Wallabies 2023

He has played at Wallabies level sure, in weak Wallabies sides. Never put in a performance that made you say he belongs at the level

He had some very good performances in his last stint with the Wallabies in 2020.

His strengths are lineout and workrate and his height and skillset makes him a good complementary option in plenty of backrows.

Doesn’t carry well enough to play 6. He is an okay player but one that should be in the rear view for the wallabies.

He was a fringe player who went and played in a weaker comp. People say Cooper shouldn’t get picked for playing for the division 2 premier’s in Japan. Hanigan was playing Div 3. Playing division 3 rugby in Japan should not see him even in the conversation for the wallabies

I don't think he's going to get picked this season but he is back playing in Australia and Rennie has clearly been a fan before (and picked him consistently in 2020 whereas most fans wouldn't pick him at all).

Cheika saw his potential but problem was he picked him too early due to a lack of alternatives. He was basically just a kid, he is definitely going to be an interesting watch when he gets some game time, has bulked up considerably.

The fact he was playing div 3 Japanese rugby shows where he is at. Nobody else wanted to make a better offer.

It wasn’t about the level, it was about money. He could have stayed at the Tahs but given the uncertainty around Covid they opted to let him go and get paid to play footy rather than have to pay him not to.
But no club at a higher level came to the party and offered him anything better. It shows how in demand he was on the market

Unless you're a close Hanigan confidant then you don't know what he was offered what or his reasons for taking the offer he did.

In either case, Hanigan can push for Wallabies selection through playing Super Rugby 2023 like everyone else, any 2022 talk is a bit pointless i think.

People are projecting a dislike for him on things in the past that were out of his control. Should he not have taken his Wallaby jersey? In the same situation, none of us would turn down that opportunity. I’m not saying he should or should not be in the wallaby framework, Let’s see how he goes.
