Wallabies 2021

Youd think that Petaia, Lolesio, Swain, Lonergan, Wilson, Wright the Qldr, mcRight will all stay in Oz for the work. Famausili too perhaps. We will soon find out. To'omua might go because of his versatility but probably shouldnt.
Who's our 3rd tight head then?

Might take someone who plays both sides, assume Slipper, Bell, Tupou, AAA locked in, Sio, Robertson(Robinson?), Pone F, remaining spot. Are there any quality Australian eligible props playing in Europe ?

Not really, Europe loves our locks but hate our props weirdly. Guess they can grow fatties in a pig sty behind a pub but don't have the vitamin D and veggies to get the tall lanky ones.

We have always had some good, even world class, locks. We have had some pretty dire props. Takes a long time for perceptions to change, I reckon.

Wallabies conceded 21 tries during the TRC, 14 were against New Zealand, 4 against South Africa and 3 against Argentina. To break it down 15 of those tries were conceded in the 2nd half, compared to only 6 in the First half.

On attack It’s fairly evenly split, with the 1st 20mins and last 20mins where the Wallabies are most likely to score.

5 props standard (2 each side plus a utility)

They will probably tour with 6, though I think it'll be Robertson as the 6th as thp/utility as Pone is the ideal pre season get some training kind of guy. THOUGH I would much rather Pone and leave Robertson behind.

Pones been injured for months.
Also, pardon my ignorance, but what makes some props able to play both sides and others not? I mean, Robertson playing THP with the much larger Bell at LHP in recent games seemed to go against what I’d imagine the body types of the those positions would require. Is it technique? Is it a willingness to play where required? And if it’s not hard to change (I can’t imagine it is) why wouldn’t we play AAA and TT in the front row?

Apparently they are completely different techniques and it is actually quite difficult to be able to switch between the two (particularly at a test match level).

I was told by a mate who played at the highest level that loose head prop was more difficult, but that was 40 years ago. Something to do with only engaging with one shoulder.

Most tighthead props would disagree, two shoulders engaged with two different players, forces and angles create a greater challenge.
A LHP only has one shoulder and one opposing player to deal with.

I’d go with Sio as he can also cover hooker in an emergency.
Think Sio is alreayd included in most 'fantasy' squad rows

LHP: Slipper, Bell, Sio
THP: Tupou, Ala'alatoa, Faamausili
Utility: Robertson

6 MIGHT get selected to one of the above misses out.

Alot will depend on Ala'alatoa rejoining squad (I imagine he will) and Pones ongoing recovery to full fitness.

The general rule is that loose head is the more technical position and tight head is more the proverbial brick shithouse. From my perceptions after 35 years in the battlefield I’d concur with that, however I did play with Fletcher Dyson back in the day and he was much more the technician but ended up at tight head for the Wallabies and he wasn’t actually that big. I think that a proficient loose head can switch more readily than a tight head.

Personally, i'd take Robertson over Sio and Pone at the moment.

I don't think we'll see Pone this year.
