Simmons over Philip is disappointing. Wright and Dempsey will be fixed when Pocock and Samu are back. Don't see the point of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). But overall, better than expected.
I tend to agree on AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), don't see the point, I would have gone someone with some pace outright pace, but he has played 100 tests or more, I think Maddocks is lucky to get a gig as well.

Only thing I can think of is we don't have a back up outside centre.

I'd have taken Pulu or Naivalu over Maddocks, fo sho.

Maddocks has the running game of a wing/15 and the kicking game of a strike winger.

I'd play AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at outside centre over Hodge.

Whilst I'd play Kerevi at 13 over AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), I think that is a fairly marginal call versus Kerevi being out and out our best 12 now and a much better player there.

If Kuridrani went down I'd prefer to have Kerevi/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) than To'omua/Kerevi for example.

So, off that:
1. Sio
2. FF (Folau Fainga'a)
3. AAA
4. Arnold
5. Rodda
6. Jones
7. Hooper
8. Naisarani
9. Genia
10. Foley
11. Koroibete
12. Kerevi
13. TK
14. DHP
15. Beale
16. Latu
17. Slipper
18. Tupou
19. Simmons
20. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)
21. Dempsey/Valetini
22. White
23. To'omua

I reckon LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) will start at 6, I think he fits Cheika's idea of a 6 and I think Lealifanio will get game time at some point at 10, remembering last year we finished with To'omua at 10.

I think that has to be the reasoning. Without AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), if TK gets injured, you're either shifting Kerevi out or a winger in. Maybe better to stick with an experienced specialist and leave the rest as is, as little as he offers these days.

Obviously, they don't rate Hodge as a 13 or they'd have him as the back up 13 and there'd be no need for AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper).

I reckon Petaia is a huge chance to come into the RWC squad in place of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) if he can prove his fitness in time.

There are 15 backs in this squad and I think we'll take 13 or at most 14 to the RWC so you're still looking to cut two others. I reckon Hodge/To'omua/Banks/Maddocks won't all go to the RWC.

A part of me is frustrated that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) has been picked, as he's been very so-so at Super level this year. And he's about 47.

And I just know that he's going to get more game time than he really deserves.

But...... he will slot in and play his fucking heart out, and probably be one of our better backs.

It's just what he does, and what he always has done.

He's frustratingly good, and I have no reason to think that won't take him to Japan.

It would be quite possible to consider the proposed and likely 9s (genia & white) as the primary playmakers with the 10 the secondary whose role will be pass it to Kerevi and back up

Scintillating stuff, FP.

Would you keep him or gamble on Petaia?

I don’t really like his selection, but if TK goes down in a before a WC knock out game I reckon Cheika would like to have AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to call on above whomever else may have been playing 2nd fiddle to TK and who will get minimal game time between now and then.

Pretty hard to argue with a lot of that squad. A couple of selections you'd take issue with, like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and no TPN, but the rest of it has a logic behind it.

"however, offensive players show greater declines in performance compared with defensive players"

I'm not sure he'll make the 23. I take it as being more of an emergency in case Hooper can't play.

I agree. Wright is one of the more promising players coming through, but it is rare that two No 7s are included in the 23 (leave aside the Pooper argument because Poey was selected as a No 8, not a back up No 7).
