Who picks a 10 for defence? its literally the one position in the world where no team picks a player due to his defensive abilities. At best its a bonus, as with Farrell and Sexton. Everyone else hides their 10.

I like most of the rest of your picks.

Double bonus if he can get away with a shoulder charge every test.

Fuck me if I don’t agree with the Derp. Imagine that.

In my uneducated opinion its largely down to the hooker and second row. I reckon the scrum has been ok (even though it should have been great, really) and they have been decent enough around the park.

The platform getting laid is mostly about the intelligence (or programming) of the pods. Locks will lead the primary pod digging through the heavy weather in tight. Front row is the other a bit wider, not necessarily with hooker at point, but mostly.

I think the key is the pod training as to how and where they hit up.

Plus he is quick, has a great boot, reads play.

I guess in my assessment be possibly benefits from having not had to have played substantial minutes - players just aren’t going to look as good in a team that is struggling - but I am still not sure why we wouldn’t have wanted to give him more of a shot.

Banks looks like a new model Chris Latham to me. That's not a bad thing.

I don't rate Ruru, and feel he's a massive step down from the other four.

I like his aggressive approach to the game. Always willing to get into the tough stuff, probably better than any of the other No 9s in the country, especially including Will G.

Scrum has been OK at times only, the lineout has been shit all year (it should be the weapon to attack from), the cleanout is atrocious (inaccuracy = means committing to many to secure ball - which equals not enough at the next breakdown - which leads to turnover etc etc)

That comes down to collective responsibility, attention to detail and commitment

Kepu was on the LH side since the middle of the RC. AAA and Sio were going pretty well.
What would possess Cheika and/or Raiwalui to change that and play Ainsley on his unnatural side for that final test? Or to play him at all when he so obviously struggled at that level?
And what of Toupo?

Madness. Irresponsible selection that just set us up for what happened in the first few minutes and later in the test.

Only because of Robinson being injured - we all of a sudden have THPs and few decent LHPs

Slipper should have been in the team.

Well "if" he didn't do coke and demonstrated some from - probably

As he did do coke and hadn't shown much form - no

I will be interested to see if he can get over his back issues

He's definitely shown enough form this year to be in the squad..........

Unless Brad Thorn is now coaching the Wallabies I don't think the coke part is still relevant.

Fixed.

I suppose. But also what form had Ainsley shown, besides being in the worst super rugby scrum? At least with Slipper he has a history of being effective.

So what prevented our props remaining where they had been since the RC? You have to admit that Ainsley is not up to it and that Slipper has demonstrated he is fit enough to at least fill that back up role if not to challenge for a starting spot, which hopefully he will do next year.
I think you are defending the indefensible.Sad as it is for all of us mate, the selections and coaching are not up to par. Last year with the same cattle being organised by Ledesma our set piece and general play was far superior, and without Pocock to boot.

Every prop in the setup except for Sio has been switched from one side to the other and some back again.

Losing Ledesma is proving to have been a killer blow.

it's a bit quid pro quo. I thought the general play of our forwards was pretty dire under Mario.

Now it seems to have switched. Not sure if Simon R's domain is just set piece coach or any forward play. If it's just the former, than it's a fail. If its the latter then I think it's picked up.

We got smashed in the scrum and at the breakdown on the weekend. Surprisingly our lineout was pretty decent for 2 weeks in a row.
I thought that Ledesma was a set piece coach. Not sure what Simon Rs responsibility is but ultimately it is Cheikas setup.

I dunno, but Ledesma was brought in specifically to fix the scrum prior to the RWC.

Thanks Derpus.
Fair call on the defense capabilities of a 10. I guess I'm just so irritated with the work of Nathan Grey that this could be a Knee Jerk reaction.
There are more layers to this;
The options that i think will be considered are; Foley, Cooper, Beale and To'omua.
Each of the other 3 players have fatal flaws that ultimately ruled them out, of which defense was a common denominator.
Ie
Beale at 10; ( Runs sideways and ruins the space for others, but is fast and can kick + needs to be hidden in D )
Quade ( Yellow card magnet that hasn't been the same since he did his knee in RWC 2011 vs Wales. + needs to be hidden in D)
Foley ( Kicking too short. Dropping into the pocket + Needs to be Hidden in D ).
