Somebody get the summary of this thread and post it to Dickenson and the NSWRU as a perfect example of how a game can be totally ruined by incomeptent officialdom. You could see that when he pulled Phibbs in and warned Randwick about the non-existent offences their defensive started to hang back. The whole game changed then from Uni not being able to get the front foot to running at will. The game was effectively over then.

Randwick also suck, rather hard. There were never much hope with them having 10 first choice players out with injury.

Uni also has a long list of injured - Waugh, Caldwell, Halangahu, Jerry Y, Trist plus the Sevens guys and players being ineligible

The loss of the second rowers was key to the pig performance. The scrum was effectively de-powered. Take nothing from Uni's performance but as I said Randwick backed off after the first 15 minutes when the penalties and warnings that should never have been given were awarded. I always predicted a Uni win based on the dominance of the halves which was apparent and would have been the decisive factor in a real meeting between these teams which we did not see today.


I wonder if we could convince Michael Brial to come out of retirement to sort out Tom Carter's penchant for starting push and shove. He would go down quicker than an AC/DC groupie is Brial hit him ala Frank Bunce.

The question has be asked what's the point of a team of super15 quality (as brett said, I agree) playing in a club rugby comp? Don't get me uni are a fantastic club but the aru should force guys like barnes should be playing for a different club

I don't agree with that Louie. What stopped this from being a good game was Dickenson basically penalising Randwick out of the game in the first 15 to 20 for imaginary offences and warning them so they backed off from what had been a very effective defence. From there Uni were able to do as they wished and did. If Dickenson had been halfway decent today we would have seen a great game, that I have no doubt would still have resulted in a Uni win, but this was like an opposed training run with the subs being afraid to tackle.

For a full time professional Dickenson was attrocious.

Did anyone else think the Mafi try should not have been allowed? He was stopped short of the line and then lifted his body to place the ball over the line. I know you are allowed to "place" the ball in any direction but moving your body?

I thought momentum was the prime factor in that try. Mafi was hit by a couple of his forwards who took him forward.

Things I have observed today:

1. Uni HAD to win this game convincingly, otherwise the tahs would be in a lot of trouble next week.
2. Dickinson is an idiot
3. You should no longer be penalised for hitting Tom Carter, instead you should be rewarded.
4. Beale was average in attack, but rock solid in defence
5. Barnes CAN pass as well as kick. His place kicking has improved quite a bit.
6. McCalman was invisible and got a lucky try
7. Kepu held his own at scrummaging, went well against a better pack.
8. Phil Waugh and Daniel Halangahu are almost fully fit.
9. Passion and atmosphere still exists, in club rugby.

A stupid one-sided contest made worse by very poor refereeing - the non-existent shoulder charge by Lam being the worst offence. Why isn't Lam signed up to a Super team? Much better than the over-rated Jenkins who I have watched in at least 10 games and not seen him get a pilfer once. Betham I thought was better than his old school chum Beale.
