Geez there's a lot of anger in here tonight.

I thought it wasn't actually such a horrible game and I don't think it was down to Dickinson that Randwick couldn't get any momentum happening. They were simply outclassed in pretty much every facet of the game. Thought KB (Kurtley Beale) had as good a game as could be expected given he was heavily marked and in a team that got thumped.

Match report should be up tomorrow so have a read then and comment on my unqualified rantings!
If you're lucky I'll sort through the photos and put up a Tom Carter slideshow :)

Pull your head in. No need to abuse fans of teams, just because you disagree with how the clubs are run.
Says more about you.

Don't worry about it Cylco, Wamberal has been crying this tune all week here and on PR. Best summed up by reading Spiro's latest article.

The ironic thing for me is I bet he is one who whined a few years ago about Wallaby players never turning out for their clubs (which I did).

I for one am glad to see all the fit Wallabies and S14 players playing for whoever their club is, the more the better. Just having those professionals training and playing with the semi-pros and up and comers helps those a step down improve and raises their standards as well as instilling some much needed grass roots humilty into some of the stars.

I can only wait to see what the whining will be like over the next few years when the players who have formed the cores of the lower Randwick grades start to graduate to 1st.

Gnostic, I agree with your post.
It is fine for everyone to debate the pros and cons of having clubs like Uni and Randwick with an overabundance of professional players - personally I would rather see a "deeper" comp. That said, the Shute Shield this year had some cracking footy.
I take exception to being abused as a fan of a club - that is misguided rubbish. As someone who followed Uni through their 2nd Division times, I make no apologies for being a fan. That doesn't mean I endorse everything the club does.

As a Uni fan I was disappointed with the game. It was ridiculous. I thought Eastwood would have been better opposition but tough luck they didn't make it. I would also have liked the reserves to come on earlier and not for the two minutes Hugh Hawkins got.

Was Gilbert playing 15 for Randwick?

I get a bit confused by the Queensland and Sydney competitions because a few of the Brumbies and Force players play in them. Also how do they choose which team to go on or is it a draft type system.

Can anyone predict how Uni would do against an Aviva Premiership team? Just wandering whether or not they were the same sort of standard

the first half seemed like a penalty at every breakdown...
barnes was brilliant
kepu looked strong in parts
beale tried hard in a defeated team

Given they're made up entirely of S15 contracted players I would guess reasonably well but I don't know enough about the level of Aviva short of a few highlights vids.

The loss of the second rowers was key to the pig performance. The scrum was effectively de-powered. Take nothing from Uni's performance but as I said Randwick backed off after the first 15 minutes when the penalties and warnings that should never have been given were awarded. I always predicted a Uni win based on the dominance of the halves which was apparent and would have been the decisive factor in a real meeting between these teams which we did not see today.

I wonder if we could convince Michael Brial to come out of retirement to sort out Tom Carter's penchant for starting push and shove. He would go down quicker than an AC/DC groupie is Brial hit him ala Frank Bunce.

Randwick were out to put uni off their game, they were pushing through off side at rucks and creeping up in defence.

It isn't surprising to see them heavily punished, Dickinson had a few questionable calls (like the pulling down at the lineout, but he was at the back of the lineout and the vision from the front showed a different outcome and the tackle on Carter) but when a side is pushing the edges hard that can happen.

The thing is Uni just kept coming and were bloody effective and disciplined

Having watched, the game live, but from the back of the western stand, I couldn't see why Randwick were being penalised so often. A TV monitor close by for close-up replays might've been handy as I felt they somehow had got Dickinson offside. But keep in mind discipline is a hallmark of Uni rugby, all the way down to Colts IIIs. I remarked to one of the Pirates' coaches sitting next to me the penalties were stifling Randwick. However, the shoulder charge which earnt a yellow looked pretty bad live. And the subsequent charge on Huxley after he passed the ball looked just as bad but it seemed the officials missed it.

Uni were simply too good. And much fitter, too.

Remember the Black Knight defending the bridge in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

"I just cut your arm off"

"It's only a flesh wound"

5000 to the GF, only a flesh wound - nothing to worry about.

Lets see how much better the resurrected Sydney Rugby Union can do next year and beyond.

The last few years have identified plenty of opportunities for improvement for the incoming administration to examine.
