So with all the consternation regarding the selections and how there should have been more NSW players in there because they were dominant at the national schoolboys champs in 2016 (even though that was two years ago), let's look through that NSW team and work out where they are playing now.

NSW I:

Jack Ongosia (St Augustine’s; ISA),
Opeti Helu (Newington; GPS),
Nick Brown (Kings; GPS),

Shadow Squad:

Tim Anstey (Barker; CAS), Matt Coghill (Barker; CAS), Bo Abra (St Augustine’s; ISA), Sam Ridley (Scots; GPS), - 1sts Colts Sydney Uni Max Douglas (St Augustine’s; ISA) , Edward Fry (NBSC Freshwater; CHS), Ben O’Sullivan (Waverley; CAS), Milan Basson (Knox; CAS), Dimitry Chipizubov (Oakhill; ISA), Bayley Kuenzle (Newington; GPS) - in squad, Byron Hollingsworth-Dessent (Trinity; CAS), Matthew Orpen (Kings; GPS), Charles Shepherd (Asquith HS; CHS), Lachie Day (St Joseph’s; GPS), Bailey McAndrew (St Augustine’s; ISA)

Aussie 20s team to play FIJI
As expected the QLD State U20s side under the guise of Australian U20s to play Fiji has been named.
Of course there has been a few token NSWelshmen and Brumbie boys thrown into the mix in a lame attempt to call this a National side.
It may be cynical to say as both players are excellent and deserving but with so many Qlders in the team it is astonishing that the captaincy and vice captaincy have both gone to the outsiders- Is this another attempt to placate the southern states ?
Of course we still have a few boys to return from super rugby commitments which should undoubtedly even up the state allocation BUT unfortunately 5 of these shoe-ins are from QLD which gives them a total of 18. WOW!!!
Its OK though because the Reds are doing so well. Second last in the conference but they are competing - sought of. They’re ahead of the Sunwolves
I suppose if Waratah Super Rugby team were weaker they would begin injecting youth into their sides aswell. Would this give the NSW boys a leg up into the team considering they smashed Qld two years ago.
Would the Reds boys be playing super rugby in NSW – I think not!
It was kinda expected though when the ARU gives sole control of selections to one state. Can’t be good as a National pathway when its all about the QLDers. Cant be good for Australian rugby.
Good luck Queensland Australia against the Fijians, Tongans and lets pray for the game v New Zealand.

After the 2017 Australian squad was announced the then assistant Australian coach Jason Gilmore(current AusU20s coach) was quoted as saying about his Reds players ”Selection for OUR players in the Australian side is further reward and evidence that the pathway system in Queensland is producing talent”
As assistant coach of the Australian team at that time, shouldn’t he have been commenting on all of the states pathways not just his Reds boys. Love his passion for the Reds but hes meant to have a National viewpoint in that position.

Then he was given the 2018 head coaching position which has now crushed any other states chance of a pathway system to the National side for their players.
Someone with an agenda so focused on their own states success should never have been given total control of National selection.

When the ACT team won the Schoolboys championships and then NSW players dominated the Australian side everyone claimed it was NSW bias that got them selected. The coach and selector in that situation were both Queenslanders.

Rasch and N Brown were both call up for Barbarians.

Dan Matthew made U20 Oceania squad last year, appears to has missed all selected squads this year.

I am guessing he told them he wasn't available.

Luke Osborne was in the larger squad but was cut. (he would have been my 1st choice at 15)

Playing grade for Eastwood, I would think.

Sikimeti, is in the U20 squad.

Pretty sure Jaffer-Williams is still playing at Randwick. I am sure someone said he was playing 2nd grade 2 weeks ago.

Jaffer-Williams was plying, but made

Jaffer-Williams was, the decision was made after some cuts took place. Hasn’t been at training all week and has said he is taking the year off.
Well that's fucked.

I hope the good people at Randwick give him all the support and encouragement he needs. If he stays in the game he has a big future.

Congratulations to the one prop, one back rower and two wingers that made the starting line up from NSW. Tough for a southerner to get a spot in this side – well done
Also congrats to the one reserve 2nd rower and winger.
While these players are great players where have the strongest players from NSW gone?

All of the below players are playing either 1st colts or Grade in the Shute shield and are all involved in the Waratahs development pathway program

Bo Abra Prop Aus Barbarians 2016,Aus Schoolboys2017 Currently 1st Colts Easts

Luke Osbourne Wing (Aus Schoolboys 2016, Currently 2nd Grade Eastwood)
Yirrbi Jaffer Williams (Aus Schoolboys 2016, Currently 1st Colts Randwick

These boys were all members of the two teams that decimated the Queensland sides two years ago at Schoolboy championships. That’s all we’ve got to go off!!! They have all been training relentlessly in the Waratahs development program. They are the best in the land.
How could so many great NSW players miss out?

By leaving out NSWs strongest players does this make the pathway for the 19 Queensland players an easier path to Super Rugby as naturally all States will now perceive these Qld players picked in our National team U20s team as the best in the land????

What then becomes of the Aus Super Rugby program and the Australian team???

The ARU has to look at this selection process a lot closer if Australian Rugby is to develop its best talent from all states.

Re: Luke Rixon

Was playing League in Cooma.

I did hear he was coming back to play this year, but haven't seen him in any Colts team.

His brother is playing at Manly.

I just wish Luke Rixon was in the mix somewhere! He was a try scorer.
If Helu, Douehli and Pietsch were around they would be in there for certain. It’s just a shame some of the better NsW players are elsewhere- there is no conspiracy.
Pietsch still might be drafted.

I think we are OK for 10's. Especially if Stewart comes into the squad. Lucas is a class 10 also.

Douehli not committed to Union. Good riddance.

NSW II First
NSW1 Second
Combined States Third
Victoria Fourth
Qld II Fifth
Qld 1 Sixth
ACT Seventh

Seven QLDers in Aus 20s from that squad are playing tonight against Fiji, NSW has only two - a winger in starting team and a second rower off the bench . The NSW boys were monumentally shafted two years ago for the Aus schoolboy selections and the same Queensland selectors and coach are doing it again.
Its obvious that the selections for the Aus 20s have not been based on ability or results - these selections for a National team have been based on geography.

If these coaches and selectors move up the ARU ladder we will have 19 Super Rugby Reds in our Wallaby squad this year!!!!
