Like why isn't Beau even there as well...I don't get how Reds players - and good ones at that - can miss out a squad to play the All Blacks even though the Reds beat every single NZ Super Rugby team, bar the Hurricanes, and beat the Blues and Crusaders twice. Deans selections are so convoluted just like the way he talks. Get to the point mate.

Towards the of the S15, many Kiwi commentators considered Beau R one of the entire competition's best, most effective, 7s, let alone Australia's. So, if Pocock is injured we presumably will have Hodgson come on.

Some people around these forums use too much hyperbole for my liking. Best lock ever? Maybe for the Waratahs - was always injured for the Wallabies as I recall and a part of losing teams in 2005 and 2007 World Cup. I would actually say that Horwill, one of the greatest QLD locks of all time, has already played better than Vickerman ever has in Wallaby colours.

:nta: He is also apparently the second coming of Jesus, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and his touch can cure cancer

If Pocock is injured, Robinson would be a great starting option but Hodgson is a better bench option - he can cover the whole back three

I'm very annoyed Beau Robbinson has been overlooked for the bench again. I do rate Hodgson as a player, but he has nowhere near the same impact and mongrel Beau does. With Higginbotham on the bench aswell, I can't see why Hodgsons versatility has gotten him the selection, as some people are suggesting.

I also think big Radike is very unlucky not to be given an opportunity. I would have selected him over Timani or even Higginbotham (although I have no problem with his selection).

Oh well, at least I'll have the chance to catch one of these players destroying opposition club sides this weekend.

Than whats higgers there for? Hogdson is really the 7 cover and i don't buy arguments he's there for versatility.

Maybe there's a possibility for Horwill as well in 5/6 argument, not that im selling it.

On TV I saw Hipwell in the crowd watching Uni the other day and I wish someone of his ilk could give Phipps a master class - or Catchy - (saw him a couple of weeks ago looking fit enough though he's porking up a bit).
.

I think i have mentioned this before, but Hipwell is a industrial design teacher at Churchie. He has almost no role in the rugby program, and is very reclusive in doing his own thing. Good bloke, but he is a grumpy old bugger.

Cover, but not be a dominant force. Elsom covers 6/8. McCalman covers 8/6. So why not have a specialist on the bench?

Bring back the 'dominance over the All Blacks' counter!!! It may be the last chance we get to see it so high

Tamani must have been training the house down. No other explanation for that one. Face it, Sharpe is on the outer but he may not be completely expired yet. NZ this week then Durban the next and maybe this travel is a factor in these selections.

I was speaking of the specific skill in counter maul, if he has displayed skill in this area above the usual poor showing we get from Oz forwards provide the matches they featured in. The Sharpe & Mumm combo successfully defended mauls from all comers in 2009. Something that has been absent again this year.

I wont even deign to comment on your assertion.

Sorry Gnostic, I misread your post. I must admit I've never seen Vickerman counter maul - not indeed any Wallaby team from 'that' era (not so long ago - but seems so far away).

Reddy!, any hyperbole I might use pales before your ample virtuosity. ;)

Because if things go to plan, Pocock will play 80 minutes. Elsom or McCalman will be replaced

I'm surprised Deans didn't just go ahead and select the entire Reds 22.

I mean, the other Australian teams didn't win the SupeRugby competition so they can't have any players worthy of playing...

I was initially shocked by Sharpie being left out and can't think of any reason why other than he is 5th in line. To be fair to Deans though, if you aways do what you have always done you will always get the same results. Also, there have been threads on this board before pointing out that sharpe had been noticeably absent in many bledisloe games in the past. Finally, you have the reds pairing who held their own with most packs during the S15, Timani who has the X factor and Vickerman who needs to be tested now against top quality opposition to exactly where he is up to and you end up leaving Sharpe out for this game.

Of course an injury to Horwill could change the order dramatically.

We should set up a Wallabies selection thread for each franchise. Or one for the Reds fans at least. ;)
