^ wow, I felt sure Caleb, being an incumbent AB, would choose XV's over 7's but good luck to the kid, hope he gets the Gold!

That's a big call. He's going to be putting some tough miles on the training track over the next couple of months.

It makes sense to me, he's managed to play more Super than a 7s player would've in an Olympic year. Only misses one reduced AB season, will be back for the good stuff next year. Pretty quick dash of it all to snaffle a gold medal to add to his soon to be big trophy collection.

Probably read the tea leaves, aint done enought to keep his AB jersey in the face of Reece, Jordan and Jordie. He'll come back, give it another crack for RWC 2023, probably read the tea leaves again in 2022 and piss off to Bristol to cash in before the post RWC rush. A Francis Sailian AB career. Oh well, he'll always have that glorious sunny afternoon at Eden Park vs Aus. What an occasion that was.

If he is motivated by attraction of once in a lifetime experience to be involved in the Olympics and win an Olympic medal pretty easy for me to understand that if it his motivation as pretty cool thing to reflect back on your life to say you have done.

And joining the NZ team you know you're pretty likely to get on the podium at least.

A Francis Sailian AB career.

Or like Charles Piutau career, who UK rugby will swear is the most talented, gifted player to ever grace the rainy isles and he didn't even make the NZ RWC15 squad.

Can anyone confirm which Laws will apply for SRTT, given the two comps just completed used differing trial type Laws? I am assuming they are reverting to World Rugby International Laws. It will be interesting to see how teams adapt to a different set of Laws from what they have just worked with and varying referee interpretations from Kiwi or Aussie Refs.

Watching the kiwi final season don’t mind the captains referral.

Mate and I were discussing same thing last night again, I think there maybe a bit of angst among supporters and players with some interpretations, in NZ players have been slammed probably more in not coming in from the back of rucks and mauls, just one example, now if say NZ refs keep being strict on it is it fair on Aus players etc? That's just one example off top of my head.

I disagree with captains referral RN, I dislike them immensely, and hope they thrown as far away as possible, mind you I say the same about all tirl laws they are using at moment. I actually believe we have a good set ot laws if they are just played to!

Fair enough about captains referral as first time seen it in action watching kiwi final. There are some trial laws though which I definitely improve the flow and speed of the game. One is the line dropout from in goal I quite like as I do the 50 /22 rule where you get the lineout awarded. To keep the game relevant in crowded sports market you have to continue to innovate and make sure create more game time as stats show over last few decades time ball is in play vs stoppages has been in trend decline so rules that address this ok In my view. As this is TT rugby thread won’t say anymore on this as this should be in another thread.

I can live with the line drop out, but it just another law to pander to those that don't have the ability to watch a game properly and need quick bits of excitement. But I really dislike 50-22 etc, don't see the point of trying to increase the kicking skills of players, would rather see them increase their skills in running and passing to get from one end of field to the other.
I know the old let's keep game relevant in crowded sports market thing keeps getting used, but how about keeping it relevant to those of us who have been following it and particaipating in it for 50-60 years etc. Those that come in because of a sugar rush are the first ones that disappear when next craze comes along.

The main idea of the 50-22 is to have defensive players dropped back to cover both side lines in the 22, which opens up more space out wide for the attacking teams. I like the rule and think most teams haven't made the most of it. Would be interesting to see if the Kiwis might be better at that.

I really don't like the goal line drop out for an attacking player being help up over the line. It's way too harsh on the attacking team for no actual error. A goal line drop out for a knock on in-goal or defending player forcing the ball is fair enough and keeps the game moving.

Don't like the goal line drop out. Getting held up deserves a 5m scrum.

50-22 is a good rule i reckon, but not overly concerned about it being punted

Everything else is fine

I like that. Those are the best of the variations in my view.

Yep well least offensive anyway. But seriously I real happy no captain's referral or 50-22, I understand about the idea of taking defenders out of line etc, and if you not creative enough to do it with passing etc, I suppose you just get rules to save you getting better.
Not real sure how happy I am with Red card only 20 minutes, but understand that reasoning too. Especially with the head contact laws etc.

I think it is much better given it means referees aren't bottling decisions for fear of impacting games too much.

It was pretty farcical how frequently obvious red card offences that were going to lead to suspensions were only given yellow cards. Even in Super Rugby AO this year that happened a lot early in the season.
