We've been arsing about with "playmaker" (code for unable-to-cross-advantage-line) type players 12 for more than a decade. The only variation has been McCabe, who played on teams that I would gladly have in lieu of the current one.

To'omua hasn't shown himself to be a playmaker this year, he's basically a specialist defender. His kicking is shit and his ballrunning isn't any better.

There's a seemingly popular notion that because TK can break tackles and get across the gain line (insert your favourite pejorative here - crash/bosh/etc), we should pick someone at 12 who can't do those things.

I'd rather we filled the backline with ballrunners that threaten to break the line everytime they touch the ball rather than weaksauce fly halves that don't do any "playmaking" and can't bloody kick.

In my opinion, based on To'omua actually doing it at test level, he offers more. In addition, he offers more in defense, our biggest concern. In fact we've fallen apart when he's been off the field.

What do you actually mean when you say "offers more"? I am no fan of either player, but "offers more" seems to be the standard forum euphemism for "I prefer him but can't really say why".

Offers more grubber kicks straight to the oppo fullback? Shuffles the ball to the outside man without engaging any defenders with more aplomb?

Outside To'omua's defense he has become pretty much nonexistent.

At least CL can kick goals.

Nah, you're talking shite son.................

His test form has been below average this year bar a couple of performances, but what you've stated is completely untrue regarding his form over the past couple of years.

And out of our current 12 options, he has the best all round game, and his test form last year displayed that.

He was great in the Argentina game until he went off. Constantly straightened the line, committed defenders then unleashed Kuridrani.

How do we know he's our best option when the alternative options don't get a gig? Has he really played well enough to bolt-down his position? What is it going to take to try someone else? Hell, Beale (who I wouldn't pick at 12 in tests in a million years, fwiw) played in a Super Rugby championship team this fucking year and you still don't think To'omua should step aside so we can try an alternative. Basically he stays there forever until someone else proves themselves in tests, but they'll never have a chance because he'll still be there? What a plan.

Based on this year's form, there's probably two players - folau and TK - that shouldn't be considered for rotation so we can try alternatives. Frankly if To'omua is as far out in front as you say he is, that will become quite clear if we try someone else and we can put him back there when the alternative fails.

Constantly? Stop it.

Did you watch the game?

Sorry I will rephrase, he constantly did it when he had the ball for the 30 minutes he was on the field. I assumed that was implied.

The only other uncapped player currently in contention is Godwin, and unlike To'omua, his Super Rugby form this year wasn't that great, and he doesn't possess To'omua's ball skills...........

However, he might make for a great alternative or even push for selection if he gets back to 2013 form............

But there isn't a selection of untried options floating around that have displayed the necessary abilities to be a Wallaby inside centre.

Well neither has To'omua, this year.

Basically he's trading on a reputation built during a year in which we won 0 from 5 against the two benchmark sides.

It can't be hard to see why some of us doubt him.
