The Wallabies Thread

I love how people always bring up Diggy as an option for the Wobs. The bloke didn't do anything in his last 2 years at the reds and wallabies. He then went to France and did nothing and is now in Japan doing nothing of note.

Like Barbar said above its not 2011 ppl move on Digby would struggle to make the Reds again let alone the wallabies.

Tomane is a big uncertainty, so you could suggest perhaps DHP on the wing, which is still pretty decent.

The challenge comes with the bench where we could have:

21 Frisby or Stirzaker (debutants)
22 Harris, Godwin, Hodge
23 Hunt, Morahan, Robinson

Depth is the issue.

Really can't see Robinson making the bench at this stage. Maybe later or next year.

What is Naiyaravoro's situation? Is he fit, and is he available?

Edit : Just saw HL's post about TQ - could be available very soon.

Lilo is on a flexible contract I think, so will still be in Aussie rugby.

As for Naiyaravoro, I think he is contracted to go to Japan after Glasgow, so won't be back in Australia until after the Super season concludes.

Flexi contracts... Fools good

No player has ever said playing 3 season of rugby back to back was better for their footy then playing a full pre-season.

No. But to be fair no player ever said that playing 3 seasons back-to-back was about anything other than $$$$$$.

Foley seems to be handling it pretty good, much better than I had thought he would, even allowing that he missed a few games early in the season through injury.

I agree, he seems to be the exception to the rule.

Am I right in saying he actually started his Japanese season late as well?

I know, for that reason. Flexible contract means = injuries & poor level

Foley's (lucky) injury during one of the trials allowed him 4/5 weeks rest before he started his Super Rugby campaign, invaluable recuperation.

Yep forced rest, allowed him an actual break between seasons. Surely the mental fatigue of playing 3 seasons back to back(including a draining RWC) takes its toll just as much as the physical toll does.

I would prefer these Flexi-contracts be directed at the tier below the starting XV, use it to retain the Luke Jones and Liam Gills of Australian Ruby. Those players who contribute an important depth factor to Australian Rugby but aren't racking up an extra XV games a year through international test matches.

It's mind boggling that Australian Rugby has lost Beale, To'omua, White, Genia and Cooper in a 12month period. Yeah the ARU can't compete with some of the wages on offer in Europe, but our halves depth for 2017 looks pathetic compared to the likes of New Zealand. The ARU have to draw a line in the sand at some point and identity those players critical to the Wallabies future and make them retention priorities.

I don't think he ever played, due to the ankle injury he sustained during the RWC.
.

Folau didn't go to Japan because of the ankle injury.

Foley played rounds 3-7 of the main Top League season (it was a shortened season due to the World Cup) and then played 3 playoff games before coming back to Sydney.

It would be good if I learned to read. Appears I just look at the first three letters of a name and then check out totally.
