On Foley:

On Kerevi:
Brilliant player who could have had long term WB opportunities, may still do. But Foley at 10 is always going to require more than Kerevi at 12. Kerevi needs to push Kurindrani for 13, I think.
Or we could keep developing Kerevi at 12 and get a playmaking flyhalf. It really shits me that players are being pushed away from there best positions which is deterring their development due to the lack of skills from others.

So we should push Foley out of the team to compensate for Kerevi's inability to pass or defend? Pretty contradictory statement.

I must have missed the part where Kearns is odds on to be CEO. I didn't even realize he had necessary qualifications for the role. Not sure this is the ARU's best PR move.

I’m with you here, but it’s a short list of candidates and the HC has set a way forward. I definitely agree that there are ramifications.

There are many problems we have to fix unfortunately and not a lot of time to do it.

1. Mental. I believe this is biggest problem, against Scotland and England as soon as things didn't go our way it all fell apart as no one stood up to lead. Alternatively against NZ we get an early intercept and all of a sudden the players are up and about and can see a potential victory.

2. Depth. We have about 10 world class players and after that it is lacking. Moore, Simmons, Phipps, Hanigan are all not up to this level (anymore) and shouldn't be getting selected. I would also say we are not going to win a world cup with Foley at 10 but he has no one pushing him for the spot.

3. Selections. Beale was excellent at 12 and then got moved. Steven Moore playing 60 odd minutes against Scotland when clearly not up to it was a joke. Hanigan consistently getting picked. The treatment of Rory Arnold. Phipps.

4. Use of the bench. We seemed to have a good thing going when we had "finishers" coming off the bench and providing impact. Now we have nothing. On saturday Cheika replaced Sio with Faulkner after 71 minutes I think it was. How can you possibly expect a prop to play 70 minutes in a game with 14 men at the same level that a fresh player can come on and play at???

Hodge will be playing 12 for the Rebels and if he performs well I don't see why he can't play 12 and Beale can play 11 for the Wallabies. Stops the defensive reshuffle, gives us a hard ball runner in tight and Beale can still play his second playmaker role. This is better in my mind than the current set up but obviously if DP continues on his upward trajectory he may well make the 12 jersey his own. Lilo too could be an option at 12 but I would much prefer him replacing Foley at 10 if he's up for it.

I also don't think it can be overlooked that Beale's bad run of performances have coincided with Israel taking a break. Folau gets the best out of Beale because first, some of Beale's best work is putting Folau in a bit of space, two Folau attracts at least two defenders which creates space for Beale, three there may be some element where Beale feels he has to take on the role of providing the attacking spark without Israel and ends up trying to do too much. They're both so much more effective when they're playing together.

I agree totally - we need to be doing much more to blood young coaching prospects, and develop the coaches we have.

It's why we've been calling on the podcast for development coaches to go on the EOYT, much like we do with players. Just one idea but I think it would be a good step forward.

It’s important to see actions that may help in the long term, so I completely agree with you. There needs to be much better connection to the premier division coaches ditto through to schools and the clubs.

But you know it isn’t what I was discussing. Taylor was mentioned in passing, as was Fisher. Time to quietly check interest in internationals while we are at it. Must put the Deans thing behind us.

And probably it’s a search that won’t be fruitful. It should be done anyway.

You play your 10's at 10 and 12's at 12. Pretty simple stuff.

I guess we could play Beale at 15, Folau at 13, Foley at 12, Hunt at 10, Kuridrani on the wing?

What?

Kerevi has been shit at 12. Your attempt at making that Foley's fault seems non-sensical.

I like it. Except again. Beale has no experience on the wing? You think he won't get exposed? Even DHP struggled defensively when he got shifted from fullback at the force to wing at the wallabies.

If Beale is not the best 12, then he goes to the bench. Cos he sure as hell ain't the best winger or fullback. If that means we are missing a playmaker, then I'd rather put my money on Hodge or whoever is in 12 or fullback to step up.

You have completely misunderstood my statement. DO NOT PLAY PLAYERS OUT OF POSITION! understand? I never said it was Foley's fault that Kerevi is shit. I'm saying don't move him away from 12 just because Foley is shit too, otherwise he will always be shit. If you keep him at 12 then at least there is a chance in the future he won't be shit.

I remember watching Tevita Kuridrani play on the wing for the University of QLD in QLD Premier Rugby back before he went to the Brumbies. For what it's worth.

I

now this is just crazy talk ! it's the sort of pig headed blinkered archaic thinking that got us into this mess in the first place. before you know it, we will be having to demand props that can scrum, players able to pass to both sides, fullbacks able to catch a high ball (and kick) sometimes one after the other, outside backs with some guile, a consistent goal kicker, the list is endless. you are a fool, sir !

You have missed an essential element CULTURE e.g
Wallabies have had a long season - so has NZ, SA, Samoa, Japan, Fiji .....
Izzy needs a rest - you have to be kidding!!! Dont expect to be selected ever again.
Pocock is playing in Japan but getting paid to be a Wallaby - stay there if thats your attitude.
Coach forever reeling off excuses - should be firing rockets or be rocketed!!
And so the pampered fools continue to fail because they dont have to try to get selected and dont have to perform individually or as a team.

Ah yep. I get you. I had thought he first came onto the scene as a 13.

Hey, chaps. Wouldn't the first step be for all the franchises to agree to make selections in consultation with the national selectors?

It seems to work for the Darkness.

The DP situation didn't go well. Trialed at 10 cause that's what the Wobs need. Reds fans were not impressed.

Ironically that’s one of the major reasons they are considering him, because he is a media personality he is seen as someone who can connect back with the public and media to improve the image of Australian Rugby...

Basically they want a figurehead, someone who can be a puppet for the organisation... they aren’t looking for someone to make changes at the organisation and challenge them..
