As an atheist I am not offended by what he said.....nothing (i assume) you wouldn't hear in the pulpit on a sunday. Whether it's appropriate for somebody in his position is another matter.

But they can chosse to reassess their business relationships with them - assuming that they are acting on a moral basis.

QANTAS chose some years ago to sever former code share agreements with British Airways, Air France, Alitalia, Cathay Pacific and replace them with an arrangement with Emirates.

You can't have your moral cake and eat it too.

QANTAS are quite clear and open on their inclusiveness policy, if you think they’re hypocrites because they partner with Emirates then that’s an opinion you’re entitled to.

My original point had nothing to do with what you’re taking about though, I never said QANTAS were a moral compass, nor did they terminate Folaus contract.

My point was, freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. If you wish to discuss that I will, but don’t wish to continue discussing QANTAS.

I think he's entitled to his views.

I don't agree with his interpretation of Christianity

I don't care what his views are on anything other than rugby.

I think he is extremely unwise to propogate his views on social media

I think RA are perfectly entitled to discipline him as they have previously asked him to refrain from making such posts and as the employer they have the right to certain expectations from their employees.

I think that there would be a significant group of professional rugby players who would have some sympathy with Folau and his Christian beliefs but would express themselves differently

Folau said before signing his last deal that he was happy to walk away from Australian rugby if his beliefs caused a problem. I assume that he sincerely holds the views expressed and as such the termination of his contract isn't the most important thing in his life.

There are no winners in this.
This.

So much this.

A like doesn't do this post enough justice.

Remember that sacking him will offend people with a conservative philosophy which would be quite a few Rugby fans

I think the best solution is a reasoned, material fine. Think between 20 and 50-thousand dollars

I think you're overestimating his thought process when you say its a deliberate up your to RA

The bloke is a religious theologian who probably thinks what he's saying is right

He just needs to be told not to do it on RA property and fined appropriately
I have a conservative point of view and am not offended if he is fired for breaching his contract, and I also believe that those who liked his posts should meet the same fate.

Religious freedoms do not over-ride contracts you sign.

I also think a large part of this is due to showing respect to their workforce of which many are members of the groups IF has highlighted repeatedly in his posts.

Weren't they accused of forcing staff to wear a ring that had a gap in it in the lead up to the SSM plebiscite? They only appear to respect the views of those who have the same view they have.....nothing wrong with that if it is in your employment contract.

NZ won't touch him. So NH it is. You'd think Japan isn't particularly happy about it either. France's anti-religious attitude also might not be too welcoming.

Is South Africa religious?

Maybe he could continue in Super Rugby with a South African team. He would be able to keep his profile in Australia for his religious causes and still make a living playing Rugby.

I had a bit to say on FB about this, but the above pretty much encapsulates where I'm at with it now.

I am actually probably feeling somewhat despondent with Israel Folau gone - of course he had to go - but oz rugby has very few genuine attacking superstars that gets you excited to watch a game they are playing in anticipation of what they could do on the rugby pitch.

On that front, given so few, this has left a massive and even wider gap that RA will struggle to fill and get fans on board.

Like I said no winners here.

Folau has let down lots of people, not just those he criticised but those who also support the Waratahs and Wallabies fans.He re-signed last year well aware of RA policy and stance on the issue. If in line with his own beliefs he knew he couldn’t abide to those requirements he should never have signed the contract. He has irreparably damaged the Waratahs 2019 seasons and the Wallabies RWC chances.
