So homosexuals (sic) must "repent" or they will go to hell. "Repent", of course, means that they must stop being homosexual (sic). Most civilised people would reject the notion that a person can change their sexual preference.

Folau's a Christian; he believes in and refers to the Bible.
The Bible has been around for a long time and is politically incorrect.

A common theme that many Christians follow is "God loves the sinner but hates the sin".
Therefore, the homosexual person is not a sinner for being homosexual but the homosexual acts are sins.

The big question of course is: is homosexuality and engaging in homosexual acts a sin?
If someone doesnt believe it is then I suppose it isnt.

Its obviously divisive, and thats an understatement, but so are many issues in our society now since the SSM vote first surfaced and then got up.

Take your pick of divisive issues in our society now:

The controversial safe schools program.
Gender fluidity and identity being taught to children with a threat of non-parental intervention.
Transgender women competing against biological females in sporting events.
The exclusion of gender identity on Birth certificates
So-called hate speech with easy access to human rights organisations.
Freedom of Speech and Religion.

Our society has changed significantly with political correctness leading the way.
"Dinosaurs" like Mark Latham, (who has returned to politics as a much more mature person) are leading the way in challenging the way our "progressive" society is heading.

Think what you like about Alan Jones (its obvious he will use any excuse to have a go at RA) but he gets it right sometimes and as mentioned before he was instrumental in supporting South Sydney in their monumental legal struggle and victory over News Limited, and that was a very important legal case in Australia's history. It wasn't just about Souths, RL or sport.
It should be noted that politicians in general came out of the woodwork to congratulate Souths after the victory but were silent and wary of Packer and Murdoch while the battle was going on.

Jones has a lot of clout and is backing Folau. The burdening legal costs could put the stoppers on Folau's challenge but he may get assistance in that area. He's getting plenty of moral support and I assume he'll receive a lot more if this matter continues.

This is not just about Folau posting something "offensive" on social media.

It's really just that there's now acknowledgement and acceptance that there are other people in society.

Political correctness has always been a thing except it only protected one group of people.

Latham whinges that white men are being persecuted because he now gets called out for things that he and others like him could get away with since time immemorial.

The Bible isn't politically incorrect, it's apolitical and often quite absurd when read without it's original context.

It's about how you interpret the bible and allow that interpretation to inform your faith. That's why it's not good enough to say 'oh it's his religious belief - so it's fine'. It's someone's interpretation of a two thousand year old text that they are using to justify belittling or marginalizing a group of people.

You just can't say 'oh it's my religion'. The bible talks about slaves constantly, you think i can just come out and say 'based on my interpretation of the bible all black people and women should be slaves' without repercussions? fuck no.

This is, at its core, about people wanting to be free to say bigoted shit. Which they are, just not without repercussions.

It's paywalled, it's in the Australian but is a DT article by Jamie Panandram. Not sure where he fits with Slim in terms of credibility:

Billionaire Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest could provide Israel Folau with a lifeline if the Wallabies star is sacked.
Forrest’s Global Rapid Rugby competition, which he started after the Western Force were axed from Super Rugby, is set to expand next year and the tournament is seeking star signings.
The Australian understands that there is interest in making Folau the marquee signing of one of the overseas clubs — Hong Kong-based South China Tigers, Singapore-based Asia Pacific Dragons, Fiji and Samoa are involved in a showcase 2019 tournament.

What about the Western Sydney of Hunter side? Is that still happening?

I am sorry. I must have misinterpreted his picture. I thought it meant that unless they turn to Jesus, homosexuals are going to hell

Yeah, along with the rest of us.

I'm not trying to preach but to get it into perspective the other part of the same post was:

Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God
Galatians 5:19-21 KJV (New Testament)

Then Peter said unto them. Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remissions of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
Acts 2:38 KJV (New Testament)

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent.
Acts 17:30 KJV (New Testament)

The bit about slavery is from the Old Testament.
The purpose of his post was not to belittle or offend, but he didnt pull any punches either.
It did however offend regarding one particular group of people in our society amoungst all the other ''sinners".

Anyway, I'll let the legal eagles battle it out in the courts if it gets that far.

I read that Anthony Mundine piece. And I think he is a complete Muppet. But he did make the point that Israel was quoting the bible. And it was the Bible that was offensive and is what should be banned not Izzy.

Bit of don't shoot the messenger,

Why then can churches, book shops and printers continue to distribute this hate?

I think it's time for a heavily censored version to be written and endorsed by the Government. There should be a bible buy back or amnesty to rid the world of the old offensive scripts. Or perhaps religion should be outlawed.

I think I will read Animal Farm again.

You seem to be confusing someone's employment conditions with the ability to say something without being put in jail.

Curious why you (and Folau) chose to leave out the last bit.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another.

People seem to be loving the outrage.

Drunk on it. Social media is the bottle they drink from.

Therein lies many of our problems.

Good luck to you if you wish to express your religious beliefs in today's day and age. Especially if you are a celeb of sorts. Keep your mouth shut or even the smallest fringe will find a way to tear your arse right down. And if authorities don't act decisively they will get it in the nuts.

I'm on the list. See you all in hell. Bring a flask will ya?

And? who gives a fuck if 99.9% of Australians want to be bigoted, they don't get to be.

The purpose of government is also to curb our less desirable instincts and to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority.

Conversely, there also exists the tyranny of the minority when they gain influence in society and the intolerance of the "tolerant society" who protest when someone disagrees with them.
