How's Raelene Castles history with managing a sporting organisation with regards to disputes and legal type proceedings whilst at NZ Netball.

A simple google search brings up a minor dispute between a coaches husband and a journalist and a boycott of the journalist by the coaches club, Ralene Castle could not resolve it.

Chief executive Raelene Castle said NNZ had tried to broker a truce ahead of the final, without success.

Castle confirmed that she was unhappy at the run of events involving the Magic and Johannsen and said of the emails: "I think it is completely and utterly abhorrent what happened to Dana and would never endorse such behaviour at all from any member of the public, or anyone from the netball community.

Another google search brings up a court appeal lodged 335 days late around the eligibility of a NZ Netball palyer

As far as legal and administrative blunders in sport go, Netball New Zealand's handling of the Cathrine Latu affair is hard to top.

There have been some beauties in New Zealand sport over the years - the Nathan Fien 'grannygate' affair in league; the NZRU's bumbled attempts to cut teams from the NPC and New Zealand Cricket casting Shane Bond into international exile all come to mind. Now Netball NZ CEO Raelene Castle's crew can join that distinguished list.

Although overwhelmingly those in positions of power and authority are distinctly upper middle class anglos. Not much cultural diversity in this lot.

  • Cameron Clyne Chairman.
  • Dr Brett Robinson Deputy Chairman.
  • Raelene Castle Chief Executive.
  • Pip Marlow Director.
  • Paul McLean MBE Director.
  • Hayden Rorke Director.
  • Ann Sherry Director.
  • Philip Waugh Director.

Phil Waugh is the token minority. He represents the Wildling community.

I think it's important to note that all the parties that have spoken out against Folau from an official stance (RA, Cheika, Hooper) left the door open that the situation wasn't irreparable.

Many have said that Cheika said he wouldn't select Folau again but that isn't correct.

"I think as it stands right now, considering what I just said you wouldn’t be able to because going to the World Cup, which is a tournament where I’ve been lucky enough to go to one where we go together in that tournament, the team, which he was a big part of," he said.

That to me suggests that if the situation with Folau changes and Cheika feels like he could be part of a united team then he could be picked.

I'd challenge anyone to make sense of what Cheika said in that quote. You've had a good go at it BH, but it could just as easily maen the opposite, or nothing at all.

Is it any wonder that Folau didn't understand what Cheika was talking about with his social media "advice"

So you're saying that she's the perfect fit for a senior role at RA? :)

You better add Nick Farr-Jones to that list.
Just gave a powerful performance on the Bolt Report, including his view that Israel gave no verbal undertakings to stop speaking his Christian beliefs. This was supported by the story of Castle giving a press statement that was at odds with what they had discussed.
Importantly, Izzy signed his recent contract assuming he continued to have the freedom to express his religious views.
Izzy has, of course, put up something like 46 Instagram posts in the last year alone celebrating his religeous views without issue.

RA clearly don't have a problem with him expressing his religeous views.

The Rugby Ruckus podcast this week is worth a listen on this matter. Kimber just gives the same rant that he has been for the last month, but when you get through that Turinui gives some good insight from a contracting perspective, and how it's not about Izzy as a player so much.

Where did you see that

It's paywalled, it's in the Australian but is a DT article by Jamie Panandram. Not sure where he fits with Slim in terms of credibility:

Billionaire Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest could provide Israel Folau with a lifeline if the Wallabies star is sacked.
Forrest’s Global Rapid Rugby competition, which he started after the Western Force were axed from Super Rugby, is set to expand next year and the tournament is seeking star signings.
The Australian understands that there is interest in making Folau the marquee signing of one of the overseas clubs — Hong Kong-based South China Tigers, Singapore-based Asia Pacific Dragons, Fiji and Samoa are involved in a showcase 2019 tournament.

TBF, it's pretty flimsy story.

Not to say it couldn't happen, but there's nuthin' written in there of any actual substance.

Well I didn't quote the whole article. There are a couple of bits of intel implied:
Forrest could not be reached for comment, but a tournament spokesman did not rule out a play for the fullback when asked specifically about Folau.
“Global Rapid Rugby has been talking to many high-profile players, and will continue to do so,” the spokesman said.

and
If that eventuates, 30-year-old Folau will struggle to land a deal overseas, given international-based players and club owners have been critical of his views. That’s where Forrest, also a devout Christian, could swoop.
However, it’s understood that if Folau was to sign with the second-tier competition, there would be stringent social media clauses inserted into a contract offer to ensure Global Rapid Rugby does not become engulfed in the same storm RA is enduring.

There's also the mention on news.com.au of Toutai Kefu saying Tonga would take him too (after waiting 3 years)

Totai doesn't know the rules. He's ineligible to play for any other country for life as a capped 15's player. I think there's an exclusion for 7s at the Olympics, but only the Olympics, not the World Series. I haven't read the article but that could be what he is referring to.
