The IRB is getting too big for its boots

Its merely a 21st century version of the usual....
Ill judged no doubt but in a context in which the Samoans have a right to feel discriminated against
None of these players (ie test rugby players: Tindall, JOC (James O'Connor), QC (Quade Cooper)) are known for their judgment off the field, and some are in doubt on the field
It's not excusable but it's understandable when not everyone is treated equally.
Do Samoa have a seat on the IRB?

If Samoans are all for fair treatment from the IRB. Consider this.

What if Quade Cooper started retweeting death threats aimed at referees or the Tuilagi family? Would it be an injustice for the IRB to suspend him?

Is Owens homosexual?

Zippedy Doo Dah. So fire truck what? Does his sexuity affect the way he referees?

In Olde Sydney Towne, at certain times of the year, it is almost compulsory to homosexual.

Furthermore one of rugby's greatest Hero, Mark Bingham (RIP) of 911 fame was homosexual. I do not believe his sexuality affected his decision making on that doomed flight.

Can't we get over the homophobic vibe. Owens is a referee.

Without referees we do not have a game. RANT OVER

We have an equivalent: SC's not appointed by the queen

Right, I thought that's what you were getting at. The title 'SC' was just a replacement of the old 'QC (Quade Cooper)'; the name changed for new appointees in NSW in 1993. Apparently (I only found this out when I looked it up just now) QCs were appointed by the Governor in council, who I suppose is a representative of the Queen, but it's still a pretty big stretch to say that any apparent preference given to QCs over SCs was a result of a tie to England.

It's more likely that any tendency towards QCs was because they'd been silks for at least 10 years, and were therefore ludicrously pimp, senior dudes.

And this is the most boring post anyone will ever write on a rugby forum. I award me no points, and may God have mercy on my soul.

Too late - already tarnished by association with SC's, QC (Quade Cooper)'s and the like :-\

Every game has bad calls that you can catch with the benefit of hindsight. Hate the retrospective scrutiny of every decision. true I get nervous that the rugby games can be totally decided by ref, but that's the way it goes. Move on. I haven't mentioned the penalty we weren't awarded for at least three hours.

Yes. Sir does rule. Sometimes despite everyone else scratching their heads going wtf just happened.
Bad calls do go both ways and the best we can hope for is that it all works out in the wash.
As a rugby nut I don't hold on to the pain for too long when my teams lose or it would take all the fun away.

I would like consistency as to how they see the breakdown and scrums - bewildering for me (having watched 1000's of games) - god help the poor beggar new to the game.

I for one blame social media on this whole thing. Ten years ago where would he have had to pick up his landline and call some friends!

Exactly.

It's worth having a look at the decision in the "Justice4" case against the World Champion Bokke. But for a technical point that meant they couldn't do so, the citing panel were going to impose a suspended expulsion from this RWC on the Bokke. That for a public dissent with a decision, with no personalised abuse, from one of the biggest teams around.

So, bluntly, when one looks at how the Bokke were treated, what has Sapolu to complain about in relation to being charged with this that he hasn't brought on himself by his own actions?

was reading a referees thread on this somewhere. ref seemed to conclude there could be no consistency because of the need for selective amnesia regarding some infringements in order to keep the game flowing

If Eliota hadn't been as over the top and used such strong language as he has....would anyone listen??

I find it exceedingly hard to believe that the IRB were going to do anything of the sort. I am inclined to beleieve they knew what they couldn't do before they were, allegedly, going to do it.
But I completely agree about Sapolu in that he should have shut the hell up before he even opened his mouth.

If you need to call someone a racist, or biased, or retweet homophobic threats to make your point, it suggest there's not much of a point there to make.

The decision is interesting; they repeat it. And John Eales, who was on that panel, is not a man whose word I would doubt.

Hell, if Eales told me the sun rose in the west, I'd tell the compass it knew bugger-all.

Really?!? Eliota has no point to make?

On claims of racism, and bias? None.

On how he's landed Samoa in the doghouse? None.

On the claim that Williams was wrongly sent off? None. Williams admitted the foul play at the citing hearing.

On the claim that Nigel cost Samoa a quarter-final place? None. Wales got five points against Fiji, so that was that, even if Samoa had won the SA game.

On the scheduling? Others got on with it, and dealt with it. He's demanding, in essence, that Samoa be the ones who get the benefit of short turn-arounds for their opponents. Considering the short turn-around he was whining about was after Samoa had played a piss-weak amateur team in Namibia, compared to Wales having to go out against the Bokke, I've no real sympathy for the claim Wales had less of a load.

And as to sympathy - by his conduct, he's forfeited any claim to that.

Well, I think he does have more than one point and I'm glad he's raising them.

Tired of watching bullshit decisions going against smaller nations, PI teams in particular.
