Any clubs out there battling with Council to keep the grounds open this weekend?
Give. The season is almost over for pure rugby ovals it should just be open slatherAt present a few I've seen:
Hills Council - open at hirer's discretion
Blacktown - CLOSED but that states "until 4 pm Wednesday 6 August 2025." so they're likely to review in an hour
Parramatta - varies depending on ground (https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/community/sports-and-facilities/sportsground-status)
Ryde - CLOSED
I don’t agree with it, but it’s more to do with how much money and time they have to spend getting it back up to “standard”. Councils now have teams that go round and manage the fields rather than just a bloke with a mower who cuts it every few weeks. It’s ridiculous cause ultimately the grass will grow back it may just be muddy for a few extra weeks.never understood why they want to stop (in some cases) 5-6 games ( 150 plus humans) for cricket which at most will see 22 humans. If you rent the fucking field out for rugby , (and charge a pretty penny for it) then keep it open. its only mud ffs.
Also I could go down to any field and host an unbooked day of rugby like you see at numerous fields with “social” cricket games and destroy the ground but pay a ridiculous amount of money to hire the ground and not use it for half the year….
Most importantly how’s The Field of Dreams holding up?At present a few I've seen:
