never understood why they want to stop (in some cases) 5-6 games ( 150 plus humans) for cricket which at most will see 22 humans. If you rent the fucking field out for rugby , (and charge a pretty penny for it) then keep it open. its only mud ffs.

I don’t agree with it, but it’s more to do with how much money and time they have to spend getting it back up to “standard”. Councils now have teams that go round and manage the fields rather than just a bloke with a mower who cuts it every few weeks. It’s ridiculous cause ultimately the grass will grow back it may just be muddy for a few extra weeks.
Also I could go down to any field and host an unbooked day of rugby like you see at numerous fields with “social” cricket games and destroy the ground but pay a ridiculous amount of money to hire the ground and not use it for half the year….

Our field gets a lot of "nah totally not clubs just a bunch of mates having fun" who run full on drills for various sports during wet weather like this.

And look, it is a community field that is easily accessible and drains well.

It is the attitude that they'll happily destroy ANY field they can get their hands on.

Most importantly how’s The Field of Dreams holding up?
