Here To Do

I asked Chat GPT for the best final series format for a 6 team competition. results below.

Finals Series Format (Top 4 from 6 Teams)

Week 1: Semi-Finals

  • Game 1 (1st vs 2nd)Winner goes straight to Grand Final, loser gets a second chance
  • Game 2 (3rd vs 4th)Loser eliminated, winner moves on to Preliminary Final

Week 2: Preliminary Final

  • Loser of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2Winner advances to Grand Final

Week 3: Grand Final

  • Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Preliminary Final
That is the McIntyre-Page final four, which has been used a number of times previously. The only issue is that you have 3 weeks of finals football rather than 2 with straight-elimination semis.

In fairness, 1 and 2 do get a benefit by facing lower-ranked opponents in that system (1v4, 2v3), but given we don't do "home" finals in most places, it's not much better.

Div 5 predictions - R5

HVRU v Renegades - Valley have looked mostly untroubled so far, tho Maccabi's starting lineup was competitive for long periods. Valley have a lot of guys with history playing together and will be a hard nut to crack. Backing the boys, as always.

Redfield v Harlequins - should be a very interesting game. Harlequins have a good wide game, similar to ROBRs, but Quins have a slightly bigger pack, and perhaps a bit more depth where ROBRs replacement 2nd Grade guys are mostly younger, whippet types. Going away side here, by a sliver.

Canterbury v Epping - Epping to have no issues here.

Raptors v Maccabi - depends who shows up for Raptors on any given week. They only had 23 players against us and couldn't maintain the effort through to the end. If Maccabi can do enough damage before their replacements come on, I think they'll pip the home side.
