Sydney Subbies 2025

Here To Do

Would like to see Subbies reconsider there finals structures in the 6 team comps. It’s already a race between 2 in most grades and the thought that someone could get lucky in a semi and knock out one of the big hitters. There’s 0 reward for finishing top of the table and could be straight out after one shot.
If we're being fair dinkum, a 6 team comp should only have a top 3:
* 2nd v 3rd in the Preliminary Final, 1st has the week off
* 1st v Prelim Winner in the Grand Final

If they want to do a top four, instead of the single-elimination semis they run now, I'd have used a McIntyre/Page final four as previous. 1st and 2nd get a second chance, with 3rd and 4th essentially having a play-off.

The only reason they're using straight semis, I believe, is down to the extra H/A round pushing things back a week - for me, this is even more reason to just push the minor premier into the Grand Final.

It’s not though is it? They won through the minor prelim and GF. It may have been an upset and not the best team but Newport did have a chance after they lost to Pats in Week 1.

What I’m talking about is a 1v4 & 2v3 format with winners going through to the GF. No second chance. I could understand your thoughts if it had of been like this last year.

If UNSW or Petersham go through undefeated and then say Briars or Forrest pip them in the semi is that just unlucky UNSW?
i misread, i stand corrected, i was more referring to the coming home with a wet sail.

Yeah I know why they are doing it, to fit the extra round in. It just has the potential to get messy. I agree with you on the top 3 only issue is with the wet weather the week before the finals you get 2 weeks off finishing 1st which some clubs may not want.

Yeah I wouldn't want the 2 weeks off so maybe you'd have to bring the WW week forward - top 3 is not ideal in the slightest but at least gives the team in 1st a benefit. McIntyre 4 is the way to go IMO but it is 3 weeks for a 4 team tournament, essentially.
