Sydney Subbies 2025

The Ghost of Bernie

Solid hitout for LCOI today at Leichhardt Oval No.2 against Balmain and Macquarie Uni in somewhat warm conditions.
For LCOI it was a strong defensive performance keeping both Balmain and Mac Uni scoreless in all games,.
Looking forward to next Saturday with Knox Old Boys and Old Barker travelling to Tantallon.
Also heard via the bush telegraph that St Ives struggled to field a full side today against Savers.

University of Wollongong had a Colts side play in the Radford Cup around 2016/17. From memory their jersey was like the stars and stripes. No seniors side.

Wollondilly also played in Sydney Subbies for a season probably around a dozen years ago.
Wollondilly - Div 6 2015
UoW - Radford 2018, 2019 (and yes, they had red and white hoops and blue sleeves)

This is all from annual reports and I have confirmed UoW had no seniors in those seasons in those reports

Wollondilly tends to come and go as an entity. Remember they would feature in the Illawarra comp one year but not the next. Playing put of Appin from memory.

They also played with 2 Grades in Subbies back in 2009

12 team comp
Renegades
Wollondilly
St George
Chatswood
Liverpool
Harlequins
Notre Dame
Mac Uni
Rockdale
Oakhill
The Vales
Covies

Of those, 7 no longer exist in any form. Covies merged with Iggies.

Four others still exist in their own right, and roughly the same size despite every bit of effort put in by some great people over 15 years:

That was a decent bus trip out Picton too. Required two stops on the way back.....

Seem to recall playing out there on the day of a federal election. There may or may not have been some souveniring of election posters.

For us it was shooting straight down the M7 and then the short turnoff to Wilton.

So what was the wrap from round the grounds from the first week of most clubs trials?
Who impressed?
Who is in for a long year?
Who got burnt in the sun?

Intersting how some of the Div 1 clubs are spacing there trials as they don’t start till after Easter.

I went to Yattenden on Saturday as its a stones throw from my place.
Hills looked strong as usual and a class above, which you would expect from a contending Div 2 1st grade dropping a division.

I've noticed plenty of Div 1 clubs are venturing out of Sydney to kick off the trials campaign.

Could this be due to the earlier start for Div 2 along with an uncharacteristic Easter Break right before round 1? I think it's safe to say with ANZAC day falling on a Friday this year, most of the footy on Saturday may be unwatchable.

Or hilarious? ;)
