Recent Colts GF results (going back a year or two) are available on the linked page. You have to scroll a fair way down the page.

Wix have won 2014 Colts 1 (that way the year of the flood at Forshaw not 2013), and Colts 2 this year. Not much of a return on investment, given that they have recruited approx 6 Aust Schoolboys each year since 2013 when their Colts 1 team lost by a cricket score in a 1/4 final fixture.

Point remains that the Coaching staff at Nth Sydney Oval have done well in recent times with a very skinny playing roster.

What school leavers from this year are in the Waratahs squad

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
Best to discus more in the Under 20's World champs thread, but if Rappy & co do as they did last year, they may have a U19 development team training alongside (fully integrated) the Wider U20 train on squad. School leavers showing promise will remain with the squad as it gets cut from time to time. Big cut typically just before the Xmas break.

The chosen ones surviving the cut may play on the 2017 Curtain Raiser Cup for a tilt at a Gold Jumper. Others may be invited to remain "on the books" with the Gen Blue Development or some such name squad with periodic sessions over the winter months in preparation for a serious tilt at 2018 U20's.

Who will be in it? All ASRU rep players will be invited, and some "unlucky". NSW SRU and Combined States players that missed out on a ASRU gig. Also note that Brumbies and Rebels and Aus 7's have been active in the School leaver recruiting market.

Thanks.

But Ok, I give up. where do I find the Under 20's World champs thread
and what's the 2017 Curtain Raiser ?

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
The 2016 Interstate U20 games were supposed to be Curtain Raisers for Super games between the Oz franchises, except NSW played all their home ones on pretty poor ovals well away from the Super Rugby fixtures, as well as their game in WA. Usually due to weather interdiction, not some evil Tah plot.

Quite a few of the returning Veterans from 2016 will be fancying their chances of being called up for State (miss a few rounds) or National U20 Duties (unlikely to be seen until mid July apart from a guest appearance - possibly in Grade rather than Colts). This will take them out of action for a part of the season.

Hasn't Haangana been picked up by the Rebels? Shouldn't be an issue though, considering they still have Tom Piroddi. Seems like Randwick will be struggling with the points cap in both 1sts and 2nds next year!
Let's hope the competition manager's computer software doesn't experience the same 'glitches' it did last season when it comes to calculating player points in 2017....

I did my best to help them. That being said about the Wix, Beasties were the mob who seemed to sail very close to the wind in 2016.

Maybe the points cap has been scrapped.

Did it really ever achieve anything? Talent has remained concentrated in 4/12 clubs (colts and grade), with one club occasionally dropping in and another dropping out of the "lucky 4" from time to time.

That can't be healthy for the long term interests of the competition, or is it?

In NZL major cities, is the talent evenly spread across all clubs, or do certain clubs seem to continue to attract and retain talented players while other clubs never seem to attract anyone talented enough (player or coaching staff) to get that club out of the wooden spoon position..

The points system has benefits and the problem is that most Schoolboy players are unaware of a points system and dont really understand how it could effect them and i also believe 2 clubs work on the idea that if they have the best players it weakens the other clubs.
My suggestion is that the top 6 clubs lose points for the following year so if you come minor premiers you start the following year with 34 points come 2nd its 35 point and if you come 6th its 39 points and its the same in 2nd colts but based on 1st colts results. Would that work?
The big big issue is clubs allocatting the correct points to the players background. The rep players are fine as that is easy to monitor, it's the local junior that is where the fluffing is done and maybe that players last 2 junior rego forms need to be available?
I think to be classed as a junior it has to be for 2 years so that a certain 2 clubs cannot register a player at a GPS school in year 12 cannot sign up to a junior club but not ever play a game or attend a training session for that junior club but still get classed as a junior.
I think something along these lines might help but unless their is someone to police this then the points will not work.
Maybe get say 3 volunteers like they have as judiciary and they police the points with authority to ask for documentarion to support clubs claims on player points.

Do they still have a young bloke called Harrison Goddard on the books? Played grade last year albeit still eligible for colts for next 2 years.

^^^I think it has been reported he has been picked up by a non-NSW Rugby franchise, possibly EPS or WTG rather than main squad. There are some fairly well credentialed yappy runt 9's about ATM so it is understandable if he has decided to go elsewhere to have a crack at the big show. Seems to be a move that paid off for another one season Wix - Lukhan Tui.

Good luck to him. He is far too good to be tucked away in Colts age footy.

Could not disagree more.
There is nothing wrong with staying in your age group refining your skills.
Playing in the state & National squads still provides plenty of pressure footy.
Good footy players don't come with expiry dates, I dont understand the desperation to fast track young boom players.

You're quite right, HJ, it was Easts that drew peoples' ire last season, and hopefully they'll have learnt their lesson for next season.

But I think it was the oversight & management of the player points system by the competition that failed us, and not necessarily the points system itself. To achieve its objective, the points system needs to be implemented fairly and transparently, while it also needs to be rigorously enforced, with proper sanctions for any breaches, deliberate or accidental.

I'd like to see the points allocation for 1sts and 2nds Colts reduced significantly (down to at least 34-35 in 1sts, and 28 in 2nds), in order to prevent these clubs from attracting mobs of blokes every year, then parking them in the lower grades, or having to send them up to grade.
