Wow some big scores across the colts 1 comp today so far.

Souths 55 def wests 10
Uni 100 def Penrith 17
Wicks 59 def 2blues 10
Manly 69 def Gordon 15

But the match of the round was Easts 15 def Eastwood 12! Go beasties!

Penrith vs SUFC

Colts 2 SUFC 43 def Penrith 0
Colts 1 SUFC 100 def Penrith 17

Only 2nd hand info as I wasn't in attendance in light of the minis gala day at Ryde. We had 33 on the bus so numbers are on the up but Uni were too big, too fast, & too well drilled.

No yellow or red cards from either team and the boys tried manfully but were outclassed especially in the last 20 mins when the score blew out.

Spoke to the lads on the phone (post match) and they were philosophical about getting pumped by a quality opposition but very confident that they would perform well in the third half (namely the bus trip back to Penrith)!

Chin up fellas I was part of an SUFC Colts 1 that had 80 put passed us by Randwick in the early 90's. It happens!

Cattledog - I was also not in attendance but my snout reported that both games were played in excellent spirit and yes - no shenanigans! Whatever you are doing out there with these young men - keep it up! It will pay off in time, and sooner than you think - it already is!

I would also like to mention that during the traditional handshakes and before the tunnel off the ground the captain of the Penrith teams in both 2nd's and 1st's invited all players from both teams to join together and reflect for a moment and to give thanks for their game - an invitation universally accepted by all players - and from my informant greatly appreciated and admired by all at the ground! How inspiring!!!

Cheers, Wreckless :)

Easts vs Eastwood game best of round! What a nail bitter!!
Rats were gutsy in losing in another nail biter last night.
Norths scored with less than 4 minutes to go to go up 19-13.
Rats ran out of time whilst attacking their try line.
Plenty of missed chances by both sides, but plenty of desire shown by both teams.
As mentioned,Manly seem to be firing on all cylinders after a slow start.

Full credit to the Rats for keeping it close. And also full credit for the hospitality. There seems to be a trend this year among all clubs to make their opposition feel welcome. This is a great initiative and should be followed everywhere.

In the lower grades, Rats lost 60 - 0 in 3rds and 50 - 10 in 2nds. What these scores don't reflect are the closeness of the early stages. I hope the Rats boys can take the positives from these results and work on them.

From memory Rage, the differences at half time in both games were miminal - 12 points in 2's and 20 in threes. The norths lower grade colts have some good cattle, and seem to make the second halves of their games and focus... or maybe they get a good half time spray.

This weeks rounds bring us to the conclusion of the half way mark. The tables show some interesting scenarios, and where clubs are at.
The biggest battle in ones and twos is to see who will fill the sixth spot, and who will take out the minor premiership. 3;s is a battle again for a top 4 spot and the minor premiership open as well.
It might just be me, but this seems to be a very open competition in all grades this season, with some champagne rugby played each week.
Keep it going lads.

Looking forward to the Souths v Uni clash in 3 weeks. They only play once this year.

Southern were lured into the classic Merrylands ambush today. A huge loss to the home side last week, a "big" game for Southos next week, so let's rest some players. ERROR! Parra 33 Southern D's 17. That should be the last time Southern Districts disrespect their opposition.

Wests and norths looked to be a ding ding battle, and it was. 3's for Wests started strong, but wilted in the second half. Much the same story in 2's, leaving norths still undefeated. 1's was awesome, with Wests and norths trading the lead. It came down to the final minutes, with norths holding on by 2 points. Was a great battle.
