Super Rugby Pacific 2025

I don't like the injuries, but I love that they're doing a weekly listing of them

Isn't it amazing what the media department can manage to wrangle from the teams when the comp is on the verge of extinction.

Agree it is good to see now, but it's still frustrating that we need to celebrate things like this in 2025 for a competition that has essentially been running for what, 30 years? Hopefully they also manage to get all the teams on the same page to provide approx. time out of the game, a few of them have obviously been given a 12th hour reminder and just sent through the list.

I saw mentioned in the Roar article that Wallaby rest protocols are back this year, obviously because of the Lions....

So, Wallaby players of interest can play no more than seven straight SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) games.

Was there a limit on total games or minutes? No more then 7 straight should only mean one rest based on bye timings I think (assuming it ignores finals).

Actually, it said...

With Wallabies rest protocols in place dictating that players of national interest can’t play seven straight games,

So I guess no more than six.

It's actually the first I've read about rest protocols for this year.

Brumbies rests make a bit more sense with a round 8 bye then. I don't really like rest protocols for such a short comp, but it shouldn't be too bad if there's no other requirements. It'd be good to know who was on that list of national interest too.

That’s as good a first round as you could ask for.
close games. Lots of action and attractive attacking rugby.
Watch our….super rugby is….back?
I did note the depth across the park on Aussie teams of wallabies and near wallabies.
See how it plays out but felt like the concentration of talent into one less team was a bit noticeable in squads on field

I watched the Tahs game and highlights of the others.

Friday night's game was conspicuous for its lack of replays. TMO found no evidence to overturn decisions, but us at home didn't either, because we barely got a second look.

Wondering if that's just the choice of the NSW broadcast crew, or was it the same across all games?

Think there is a push for the speed of the game to lift which I am overall in favour of but we also can diminish any quality.

Overall the games were good IMO and fatigue did come into them and opened up late. This will slowly tighten up as match fitness improves but it's so much better watching tries then a grind it out 15/12 game with everyone looking fresh at the end due to how slow it can be.

I don't necessarily mind it, if it can't impact the game any further I don't need the broadcaster finding angles after the fact and distracting from what's actually happening. At some point the 'fact' of what happened is the decision the ref made, analysis of mistakes or disagreements with that can wait for after the game is done.

You watch, WR (World Rugby) will try to give this a go globally and the French Broadcast directors will organise a strike!
