He is talking about the newspaper talk - hardly gauntlet throwing stuff - then again he could say nothing on twitter and you wouldn't have been able to put it on GAGR and generate discussion. If all the sports people ditched twitter i suggest it might be a bit boring - dont bite the hand that feeds you

Bloody he'll mate, like I said, I was purely pointing it out, ignito asked me a what link could have said which didn't sound sound pompous, I gave him a solution..

I couldn't really give a fuck if link 'twittered' or not..

Reds backline might end up:

9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Ioane
12. Harris
13. Fainga'a
14. Davies
15. Morahan.

I like the commitment and application of Fainga'a, he defends well though Bruce's references to his propensity to get up out of the defensive line are relevant. He is a bit slow for my liking but if you're trying to keep Harris in the side this is probably worth a shot. Is it worth a shot against the Stormers? Hmmmm.

I wonder if Link would go back to shuffling Cooper to 15 to defend. He tackled well enough defending at 10 against the lions, though Pretorious hardly sent a lot at him, preferring to kick the ball into the clouds.

got my ticket stashed in a safe place and my reds jersey is ironed and laid out ready to go. i've been waiting for this game for the last 2 years...

the last time i was at newlands to see the reds play quade cooper scored a try from a chargedown in the first minute of play. this unexpected turn of events had me on my feet in amazement only for someone to grab me from behind and sit me back down in my seat. when i turned around i saw an elderly woman (more man than woman really) who proceded to shove her fist in my face and threaten to 'bliksem' me if i stood up again.

still, it wasn't as scary as being at ellis park when the wallabies were thumped that same year.

mate, i reckon you should do a remake of the richie mccaw is a cheat video, cept wear a billboard saying BURGER is a pussy! then you'll be made to feel right at home :)

@Olddog, nothing will happen because they will think he is talking about our local afrikaans newspaper. The souties might agree with him.

Davies is quick but probably can't cover both wings - presume Digby is the missing name.

Interesting calls from Link - Harris to #12 and Fainga to #13 looks good to me.

James Hanson - first start - this could be the start of something for Australian rugby. I think he'll make a real go of it and Saia might be warming the bench a bit more.

Good to see Chambers back in the mix.

There is no doubt that Cooper will be back and 15 in defense.

Good lineup. So Schatz and Tapuai out of the 22. Hope Harris goes ok at 12 but I think he'll be more comfortable at 12 than at 15, where Morahan is a better option.

Hope Chambers makes the most of his chances if he gets on the paddock.

Like the look of that side but I recon this would of been a good week to keep Holmes in the starting 15 over Daley. Looks like the Reds are going to try and play up the middle of the field using the two playmakers to split the backs and spread the Stormers defence out a bit.

Of course it doesn't matter what the backs do if the forwards don't show up. In their face defense and quick cleanout in attack.

I assume this is part of the reason for Samo starting? Give him a licence to be as aggressive as possible for 30-40 minutes, and then bring Houston on. Also note that Gill is on the bench, so expect Robinson to also play less that 80 (maybe 65). Link is certainly going to try and play up tempo and high intensity, mixed with a good kicking/territory game and the odd attacking breakout (if possible).

I am looking forward to this game more than any other of the season so far.

now:

15 Morahan 14 Davies 11 Diggers
13 Fainga'a 12 Harris 10 Cooper
9 Genia
8 Higgers 7 Beau 6 Samo
5 Kev 4 Simmo
3 Slipps 2 Hanson 1 Daley

16 Saia 17 Holmes
18 AWH 19 Leroy 20 Gill
21 Prior 22 Chambers

I think the Reds are starting to grow towards where they'll end up for the season. They will be formidable by round 18 if they continue to develop.

Morahan needs to step up to make 15 his own, but he has the necessary skills.
Harris goes to a spot where he's more comfortable to see if he's really up to it. JdV is a stern test. If it works well then I think Fainga'a and Chambers will be fighting over 13, and if Chambers can get some form back it will be a difficult decision. Fainga'a's defence should neutralise Fourie this week.
If Samo is on song, that looks to me like the Reds best backrow, particularly against the Stormers tall timber. But they will need to work their asses off at the breakdown, especially now that Link has dropped his second open side flanker to the bench. If Samo is off-song then it could get very ugly.
I know Daley is good in the open but I do not understand why, now that Hanson is in the front row, that Holmes is not starting. The scrum will be a stern test this week and Daley's shown in the past he's not yet capable. Another few years on him and he'll be OK, but not yet. I think Daley's fizz round the field is better suited to the last 20 minutes. I'm looking forward to seeing Hanson for 60+ minutes, he could be our no. 3 Wallaby hooker if he develops.

I thought that Link would find some way to keep Harris on the paddock for his goal kicking as the Stormers don't give up a lot of tries. He will have to play better at 12 than he did at 15 last week, but at least we have seen him at 12 before in the ITM Cup, especially when the backup first five got a run.

Moving the segments of the Rubik Cube around sees A. Finger at 13, whereas he is a natural 12. They are both robust tacklers and should be able to handle JdV and J. Fourie provided the situation is not too fluid and they miss the read, especially as a pair.

As I said before: the Reds will have every chance provided they play with the good structure of the 2nd half last week and pressure the Stormers for the whole game - with 15 players.

Higgers at 8 is a bit of a concern for me. I expect our scrum will take some heat this weekend and I prefer Leroy's soft hands under those circumstances. Leroy to go hard and leave nothing in the tank and bring on the more mobile Higgerswhen the pace of the game slows a bit. I think they have that one back to front but I trust Link has something cooking.

PB that's a wealth of quality locks
Muller playing for the Tin Ears is also a young one from Ikeys, Wilhelm Steenkamp the Tin Ear captain and brother of the Stormers bench lock De Kock learn his trade at Paarl Boishaai. We struggled last year or previous year when Bekker got injured, understand Fondse is also on his way to the UK.
