Massive game for the Reds a little set back against the Lions missing out on the bonus point try but they still got the win.

The Stormers along with the Crusaders are the benchmark of super rugby they've just knocked off the Sharks who are a bit of a bogey team for the Stormers & are still the only undefeated side in the comp.

The Reds have been guilty of bombing tries the last few weeks that's a habit they'll have to drop very quickly if they want to win in Cape Town.

I'd love a win but I'm tipping the Stormers to end our winning streak.

Can't see Link making many changes hopefully he sticks with Holmes & Slipper up front & maybe finds a spot on the bench for Will Chambers.
Disco I really rate your "Queensland" Reds heading, will appreciate it if you can add "Western Cape" to the Stormers name.

Link is no stranger to selection surprises so this had me thinking of the possibility of swapping Harris and Cooper. The Stormers are going to go at Quade in defence and Harris in the air. They would be mad not too so take the wind out of their sails by swapping them.

I like your thinking.

I also think QC (Quade Cooper) will be more effective from fullback against the stormers. The stormers defense around the ruck-10-12 channel is top class, so he could benefit from second receiver plays, ala beale. He'd obviously inject himself at 10 at will for some trademark cutout passes and inside balls.

Besides he already defends at fullback its not much of a change really.

Boet the Cape press and Keo mountain goat lot is probably the closest you'll find with the Aus press and those Farce posters on here, thought your coach is use to this. Myself will never write off any S15 team , they all pretty close and it all depend on the day. Doesnt mean I feel pretty confident about the Stormers change at Newlands against any S15 team at this moment. Newlands with their close to 40,000 faithfull always brings out that extra from the players.

The ref is a Kiwi one , so you cant complain about SA refs this time around. I am really looking forward to this one, to see what our defense can do against the best attack Aus can offer. Also looking forward to the Brutes vs Saders one, think we in for a big surprise in that one. Hope the Brutes knock them so hard, the need to still feel the Earth Quake comes WC time.

I don't agree about the Bulls but I agree with everything else. It is basically about respect and a few teams have learnt what happens when you don't respect your opposition.

I don't complain about SA refs Paarl. A shit ref is a shit ref and I couldn't care less where they come from.

Nah. I have seen a lot of great big muscled pussies in my time (no not literally). Just being a big unit does not mean you relish contact.

agreed - case in point, the big marshmallow - DUNNING :)

got my ticket stashed in a safe place and my reds jersey is ironed and laid out ready to go. i've been waiting for this game for the last 2 years...

the last time i was at newlands to see the reds play quade cooper scored a try from a chargedown in the first minute of play. this unexpected turn of events had me on my feet in amazement only for someone to grab me from behind and sit me back down in my seat. when i turned around i saw an elderly woman (more man than woman really) who proceded to shove her fist in my face and threaten to 'bliksem' me if i stood up again.

still, it wasn't as scary as being at ellis park when the wallabies were thumped that same year.

:lmao: Pretty sure you'll enjoy the game and the Newlands faithfull will give you a mouthfull with your Reds jersey, make no mistake.

Wanted to go but my laaitie plays sunday his All Stars PSi tournament at UCT and no way the oxwagon can do the trek twice from Paarl. Next time maybe we can get together and have a cold one.

To be honest PaarlBok I never knew that was the official name I just assumed they were like other teams in SA & NZ where they represent a few regions & only have a nickname.

For example the Blues from NZ are no longer the Auckland Blues because they also represent the North Harbour area & people from North Harbour could never support a team with Auckland in the name.

Dankie Boet, he'll jol 4 matches between 8 and 13h00 for Boland and will be exhusted like hell. Luckily the souties have to do the same. Myself took a Brute supporter laaitie with mine once to Newlands, had to help him on our way from Groote Schuur parking to the Stadium. The coloureds gave him a hard time, some even stop with their cars when we walk to the stadium but all in good spirits.

Pretty much the same here but we aint that much worried about the CC provinces compare to the Kiwis. Stormers is Boland and WP provinces, located in the Western Cape province. The best in SA and probably in the world. We are the only non ANC province in SA and proud on it.

Huh? What do you want him to publicly say "Oh the stormers forwards are so scary, I don't know what well do".

There's nothing wrong with what he said, if they want to win they need to overcome the stormers forward pack. The Reds will want a challenge set for them, otherwise they'll go into the game mediocre.

In my opinion it's exactly the type of attitude a coach should have.

i was just pointing it out to the forum champ... most coaches wouldnt have tweeted anything at all... simple

You maybe need the Aucklander in this game.

Heard Cooper on radio yesterday about van Straaten working with his kicking. Hope Braam change his stands before launching, look like John Travolta in Grease.

Rugby365
Former Springbok flyhalf Braam van Straaten confirmed to rugby365.com that the Lions have called him in as a kicking coach on what could be a long term contract.

Lions coach John Mitchell announced on Monday that he was in the market for a coach with kicking expertise and unsurprisingly Van Straaten's name was at the top of his list.

"I'm on my way there [to Johannesburg] to work with the Lions on Thursday and Friday," Van Straaten told rugby365.com in an exclusive interview.

"They want me to help them now and then they'll put a proposal together for the future to help out with all their kickers throughout the province."

The highly-rated kicking ace developed a strong kicking philosophy during his playing career and is passionate about passing on his kicking knowledge to today's stars.

"I want kickers to learn their trade the right way so that they don't keep on making the same mistakes over and over again," he said.

"Once they make that intellectual property their own - their kicking changes and they can iron out all the mistakes."

The big task at the Lions for Van Straaten is to help starlet Elton Jantjies re-discover his kicking boots and find that confidence that has deserted the talented pivot this season.

"I made contact with John [Mitchell] a while ago and told him that I was available if they needed anybody to come and help him [Jantjies] out," Van Straaten said.

"Elton is a very talented player and I'm sure we can get him right in a very short space of time, and he's been kicking the ball so well out of hand, but as soon as it goes on the ground onto the kicking tee he's struggled.

"Hopefully I can help with that on Thursday and Friday, but with all his talent I'm sure we can get him back up to par quickly."

The kicking ace is excited about the prospect of a new challenge to add to his growing portfolio of world class kickers he is currently working with that includes the likes of James O'Connor (Western Force), Quade Cooper (Reds) and Pat Lambie (Sharks).

The beauty of his specialisation is that Van Straaten can work with a number players remotely and won't have to concentrate on the Lions players alone.

"I'm on a consultancy basis with all the kickers for Australia, and exactly the same with the Sharks working with Pat Lambie and Jacques-Louis Potgieter," he explained.

"I've also started now working with the guys at Griquas and by doing so much of analysis via the internet it's easy to keep in contact with players from all over."

Reds ace Quade Cooper is the next client on Van Straaten's rosta, and the 23-year-old told rugby365.com that he'll be all ears during the session in Cape Town on Wednesday.

"It's always good kicking with Braam and he is one of the best kickers to have played the game," Cooper said.

"I'll look to get as many tips off him as I can and just be like a sponge and absorb everything."
Glad the Lions grabbed him before the Wallabies can lay their hands on him.

I think some of that QC (Quade Cooper) confidence is starting to rub off onto Link..twitter:

He is talking about the newspaper talk - hardly gauntlet throwing stuff - then again he could say nothing on twitter and you wouldn't have been able to put it on GAGR and generate discussion. If all the sports people ditched twitter i suggest it might be a bit boring - dont bite the hand that feeds you

So reading through that story, the Reds backline might end up:

9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Ioane
12. Harris
13. Fainga'a
14. Davies
15. Morahan.

I wonder what Chambers attitude has been like at training. If he doesn't get back into the side asap, he can kiss all hopes of the Wallabies and World Cup goodbye which is surprising given how successful he was in his debut season.
