The scheduling is all over the shop this year from a Reds perspective as well.

They understandably want to grow the game across Queensland so 2 out of the 7 home games are up in Townsville this year.

Meaning, the Reds had essentially played for a month (March 19) before having their first home game in Brisbane. Then, their last home game will be in the middle of May where they won't play again until February/March next year.

Compare that to the Broncos who's first home game was on March 10 and last game is August 31.

I've got no idea how SANZAR or Rugby Australia think 3 months worth of games a year and 9 without works at all.

Ig, you could be onto something here. The Super Rugby season is scheduled so as to not impinge on the Wallaby games. I wonder why they don't just schedule around them the same way the NH does. The number of games played at a higher level impacts the development of players skill set.

I don't know about the rest of you but the quality of Aust Super Rugby has me totally pissed off. I assumed that all the guys, being competitive rugby players would be fighting to get a spot in the RWC but No! we are getting the same old crap as if it is of no interest to them.

Let us do what Ignoto is hinting at and get them to play more games it might just lift the quality of the Wallabies and they may learn how to be competitive with Kiwi bloody teams!

The problem we have with this is the Wallabies & All Balcks play upto 15 Tests a year, essentially half the year is dedicated to Test rugby.

But you do hit on the biggest hindrance to solving the issue of relevant domestic content, how do you schedule genuine domestic & Test rugby that allows eachother to thrive in there own right along side eachother.

The issue is, we simply play to much Test rugby, we are making the game irrelavant, we have turned Wallaby gold into Pizza & a 6 pack.

Creating genuine domestic content alongside Test rugby is the one thing both the RA & NZRU have simply not been capable of.

From a fan engagement, the emphasis on the Wallabies is hugely detrimental. Out of those 15 games, you'd be lucky to actually see more than 1 game in your home city.

While the Wallabies A's are great for player development, they're shit for home fans.

Change in commentary team? More crowd penalties? More gambling adds?
Change is commentary is severely underrated. I believe Greg Clark was partly responsible for the drop in ratings on Fox. Sean Maloney has been quite annoying lately too. I don’t like Andrew Voss but at least he tries to make the game appear exciting.

I'd be happy if the commentators had something constructive to say about the rugby, they seem to be commentating on a game they don't understand. It is embarrassing when a Kiwi female commentator has more insights and knowledge than our commentators.
Justin Harrison and Andrew Merthans have more understanding than the rest but it is far below the Kiwi game commentators.

Maybe it would be good to have a League Commentator, they know how to make things sound a lot more extravagant than they actually are. Perhaps Andy Raymond or Greame Hughes

Don’t go anywhere Waleed, difference between you and rodha is that you are genuinely funny.

You don’t seem this funny on the project but then again gotta take your day job seriously as it brings in the bacon or in your case tofu flavored bacon.

For the record I love a bit of Graeme Hughes commentary

Loving the crowd and atmosphere at the game in Samoa. I would say well done Super Rugby however whoever thought 2pm on a Friday was a good idea deserves to get the sack. I understand lights might be an issue but just play it on a Saturday or Sunday. Even worse it’s a bye week, so less fixtures and 1 of the limited ones available to engage audience is on when people in both NZ and Au at work. Could you imagine NRL, AFL, NFL, EPL scheduling this time slot

AU conference ladder update after round 8

Brumbies 17 points (4 games)
Rebels 9 points (3 games)
Tahs 8 points (4 games)
Reds 7 points (4 games)
Forces 4 points (3 games)

the ladder is skewed due to uneven number of games

Another close round of games this weekend, and once again Rugby Union maximising the ANZAC weekend.

I’m rugby through and through these days but my god the NRL has an outstanding product on and off the field. Every week there is cliffhangers, even if the quality in some games is shambolic the tension is great and the players genuinely hate other clubs or players. I just watched Souths v Penrith where a team came behind with 2 try’s in last 4mins, the players always in each others face and the commentators giving the impression you are genuinely watching something that is special.

I miss the days of Tahs v Reds been spiteful, even Force v Tahs or Force v Rebels should be about redemption where Force players go to war but it’s just a normal game. Every time the Tahs rock up in another Aus city it should be the must watch game of the season with Aussie teams looking to give it to the snobby Sydney elite.

AFL and NRL have almost embraced a WWE mentality with the media and fans lap it up. Hopefully whatever commission takes over Super Rugby next season can infuse some narrative building and let the players have some personality. We really need to quit the blazer brigade mentality which I think Eddie and Hamish will help remove.
