ha I just came to ask this. Reds named at 11am tomorrow

Cronn as a press conference at 9:30am tomorrow AWST so I expect that's when they are doing it.

Brumbies doing something around 1pm today so perhaps that's a team announcement?

So, in short, it looks like it will be back to a random release generator schedule.

lack of coordination in all facets of communication, marketing and media engagement across super rugby is painful to see. It gives a media community already lacking engagement with the Super Rugby product a reason to care even less if they can’t schedule their articles and media reports.

Super Rugby AU at least offered a coordinated approach to naming teams and press announcements.

I really like that wed 5pm announcement

It's weird that NZ wouldn't buy into the concurrent Wednesday team naming for everyone.

What competitive advantage are you giving up? If a player is in doubt you name them anyway then make the change later. Sure it might be 24 hours earlier than you'd name your team if you are playing on Saturday (given the alternative is 48 hours before the game) but if both you and your opposition are doing it, why does it matter?

The AFL have turned team news into a massive weekly event, they have a great deal with 7News to 'break' them on the Thursday telecast

Team naming is important for fan investment, everything from attendance to betting relies heavily upon it. To not have a uniform and accessible approach in this day and age is laughable. Dribbling it out over days on Twitter is not good enough.

Sides used to release the 22 or 25 (sunday games) anytime thu arvo's & when 7 got the rights back it was in the contract to 7 to announce them during sport in the news just to get ppl watching 7 news instead of 9 & it worked they actually started to catch up in the ratings! That was over a decade ago pre social media when ppl actually watched the news

Yeah the standardised naming time was a good move that needs to return and be enforced across the competition. Add injury/unavailability reporting to that as well. Bit naff when you have to rely on a news piece to maybe, or maybe not, report it, potentially with vague 'bung leg' descriptions.

Personally I prefer the idea that teams should be named 2 days before as now. Gives everyone a chance to absorb the 4 teams for Fridays games. and then Saturdays games being named on Thursady is early enough. I do agree injury/unavailabilty to be added, and all done on a central site. Don't really think we need all named on a Wednesday etc as when season gets really inderway quite often teams aren't finalised until 2 days before with niggles etc, and putting up teams and then changing them is pretty frustrating I think.

Nah just name all teams simultaneously, it allows maximum media coverage and exposure. Other codes do it for that reason.

Allow for an extended squad if injury niggles are a concern. As other codes do.

Starts to fall apart when you have Sunday games on the schedule - having teams named on a Friday afternoon is terrible for fan engagement around things like tipping and fantasy rugby. Ideally you should be getting all the teams out earlier in the week as part of the sales pitch to get people into the stadium on Friday/Saturday/Sunday night.

Super Rugby used to have a good fantasy competition back in the 2005-2010 era that i played with mates, in the end it just came all too hard given the way teams were announced, and lack of engagement during South African tours. We all play a NRL fantasy comp now and it’s the main reason i watch NRL games these days

Why would they miss a chance to be bellends?

Fox comp was great. Genuinely well designed so the tension built through out the season and everyone still had a chance.

Yeah, absolutely loved that fox comp, particularly for engagement with players and teams outside of Australia.

Still remember my best round coming 10th or so in the whole comp and kicking myself for the change I made leading into it that would've seen me win the round (and the weekly prize money) outright.

Understand your points, but I see no point in naming teams nd then changing them. As I said a lot of teams aren't finalised until 2 days out as season get's going, I understand why some prefer them earlier, but admit that I don't do the fantasy teams things or anything, and only really just want the team anytime before the game. I do see your points fellas, just I prefer the team named to be as accurate as possible and just maybe because I getting older and brain operatres slower I quite like Friady teams getting named earlier, kind of almost a double hit of what I look forward too? Maybe it's just I used to test teams being named 2 days before, who knows ?

Looks like Stan are moving Beau Ryan into a more general sports role, he’s covered some of the rugby related stuff recently. Cant say I’m a huge fan, but I don’t think I’m his target market either.

No promises but will try to keep up with some stats reviews through the season, acknowledging the old line - “I can prove anything by statistics except the truth”

Looking at the backline first (those that played at least a half of rugby and only Wallaby eligible players):

Top Defender (Those who made the most tackles without missing one):

1st Hamish Stewart (FOR) & Lachie Anderson (REB) 6 @ 100%

3rd Hunter Paisami (RED) 5 @ 100%

Work Rate leaders (least number of minutes per involvement – an involvement being a tackle, a carry or a turnover):

1st Hamish Stewart (FOR) @ 3.48 (meaning it has one of the above involvements every 3.48 minutes he’s on the field)

2nd Toni Pulu (FOR) @ 3.88

3rd Jordan Petaia (RED) @ 3.93

4th Carter Gordon (REB) & Nick Jooste (REB) @ 4.44

Biggest Attacking influence (most clean breaks, defenders beaten, offloads and try assists with a multiplier of their metres/carry figure)

1st Max Jorgensen (WAR) @ 105m (number isn’t really representative, but the bigger the better)

2nd Corey Toole (BRU) @ 100m

3rd Tom Wright (BRU) @ 51m

4th Filipo Daugunu (RED) @ 42m

5th Isaac Henry (RED) @ 33m

Disrupter (least number of minutes per disruptive influence, being a turnover, a defender beater, a clean break, an offload, or a lineout steal)

1st Filipo Daugunu (RED) @ 8.75 (meaning he did one of the above things every 8.75 mins)

2nd Corey Toole (BRU) @ 8.89

3rd Toni Pulu (FOR) @ 9.43

4th Max Jorgensen (WAR) & Hamish Stewart (FOR) @ 11.43

The Uh Oh (least number of minutes per stuff up – stuff up being missed tackle, turn over conceded, penalty given away with a 2 x multiplier for yellow cards and 5 for reds)

1st Tate McDermott (RED) @ 8.71 (meaning he did one of the above every 8.71 mins)

2nd Filipo Daugunu (RED) 14.00

3rd Ian Prior (FOR) 15.33

4th Bryce Hegarty (FOR), Reece Hodge (REB), Jake Gordon (WAR) 16.00

Now the Forwards

Top Defender:

1st Ollie Callan (FOR) 13 @ 100%

2nd Charlie Gamble (WAR) 12 @ 100%

3rd Caderyn Neville (BRU) & Jeremy Williams (FOR) 10

4th Tom Lambert (WAR), Jed Holloway IWAR) & Peter Samu (BRU) 7

Work Rate leaders:

1st Brad Wilkin (REB) 2.94

2nd Charlie Gamble (WAR) 3.00

3rd Tom Lambert (WAR) 3.11

4th Ollie Callan (FOR), Fraser McReight (RED) & Harry Wilson (RED) 3.20

Biggest Attacking influence:

1st Josh Canham (REB) 24.00

2nd Charlie Gamble (WAR) 19.33

3rd Zane Nonggorr (RED) 13.33

4th Tim Anstee (FOR) 12.90

5th Brad Wilkin (REB) 11.00

Disrupter:

1st Charlie Gamble (WAR) 11.40

2nd Tom Lambert (WAR) 14.75

3rd Josh Canham (REB) 16.00

4th Brad Wilkin (REB) 16.67

5th Seru Uru (RED) 17.50

The Uh Oh:

1st Seru Uru (RED) 8.75

2nd Brad Wilkin (REB) 10.00

3rd Ryan Smith (RED) 10.50

4th Dane Zander (RED) 11.00

Random I know, but did anyone else notice there didn't seem to be any try scorer markets on Sportsbet on the weekend? I went to put a cheeky fiver on Toole to score and Sportsbet weren't listing it
