WTF?

Tom Lawton (22)
Don't forget guys this is just meant to be constructive criticism of the Wallaby playmaker position..win or loose!
Bernard's Foleys...the good and the bad!
..once again I almost wasn't bothered to do this..but the first few minutes were simply diabolical for our "playmaker"

First 3mins Foley misses a tackle defending on the wing..again
And then taps and kicks away advantage and doesn't find touch :0. (Gives them possession and puts us back on our 5m under huge pressure)
7th min Foley flicks a good pass too Folou on the wing who makes a good run
10th min Foley involved with Magic set piece try to Folou making the last inside pass.
13th min Foley almost prevents an overlap out wide...falls off the tackle, although slowed him down till cover helped!(I spose that's good lol)
17th min. Foley gets flat run over by Marcs defending beside the scrum.(kepu makes tackle)
18th min. Foley makes a terrible defensive shuffle and follows Coleman out wide too far and let's a linebreak thru inside them.(terrible numbering up with Coleman)
18thmin Foley falls off another tackle(moztert)..still trying to clean up the linebreak scramble!
20th min. Foley slips a short ball too Beale...then makes a very awkward/odd attempt at cleaning out, falling over and fumbling totally ineffective at "helping" secure the ball...
19th min. Kicks good pen conv to bring up 500th wallaby point!
25th min. Foley kicks good contestable restart (that we regather)
26th min. Foley does the ole kick it out dead trick wasting penalty-line out adv ball on their try line! :0
35th min. Foley puts a clearance kick out on the full! :0

HALF TIME...so far another poor overall 40min session by our "playmaker" Foley, putting us under pressure far too often whilst adding no attacking threat..nor on Defence for that matter. Perfect conv rate atm tho with 3/3.
4 of the teams 10 1st half missed tackles are from Foley!

45th min. Foley makes a good try assist linebreak and passes for Korriebeti try.
48th min. Foley makes up for his try assist a few min earlier by being carried about 8metres for a Skosan Try with another bad tackle. (despite it being open play and Genias tackle..Foley gets to the player but simply grabs him too high with bad technique).
53rd min. Very tough call but Foley knocks on, he could have caught a tricky flick pass from Folou under adv. (I'd expect ball skills to be spot on for our "plamaker") (the moments that win games)
56th min. Foley great flat wide pass for Korribeti try!Great sideline conversion! 5/5
76th min. Foley again makes a bad call in Defence..coming in off his number and leaving Folou with THREE defenders..lucky Koribeti covers making a try saving tackle!

For me.once again a terrible overall display for a playmaker..some good "place kicking" and in the 2nd half was far more involved in attack, but so many missed tackles, mistakes and poor decision making! OMG. Let's gets some depth at 10 allready..argh

It almost seems you watch a Wallaby game just to pick apart Foley. You must hit pause and rewind to take notes during the game to be able to do what you did above. Apart from missing out on the live stream, it seems a pretty odd thing to do.

Foley was great tonight apart from maybe 2 or 3 errors, name me a player who didn't make 2 or 3 errors. But what he did in error, he made up for in spades with his direct running and great passing.

Foley is clearly our no 1 Fly half, Cooper is no-where and hasn't been for a number of years. So why don't you just get behind the whole team and see it for what it is.

It was an exciting test to watch but our bench was pretty meh. Dempsey and Rodda were very quiet. Surely it is time to reinstate Arnold alongside Coleman and also to bring Timani back in to the back row, especially so against a side like the Boks?
Hanigan was OK off the bench. Timani for 40-50 to be replaced Hanigan could work.
Dissapointing to draw a game that could easily have been won except for a coupe of missed tackles and lapses in defense. Should have taken 3 pointers twice when we went for the corner as well.

I am quite certain that if Timani was performing in training he would have been consistently selected

by 6.00am you have gone through the game to pick one player apart, meh

I think someone may be just a little obesessed

Uh, wrong? AAA and Kepu are competing, TPN has only JUST been established as first choice, and Uelese is bursting at the seems to displace him.

There are plenty of people vying for lock. TK and Kerevi competing for 13. 12 and 15 are only locked in because those are the two positions we have world class talent.

The only area where we are lacking is the back row, and boy have we talked about that a bit already.

TK and Kerevi aren't competing anymore. After Kerevi's lack of defence was exposed by the All Blacks, its TK, Daylight, then Kerevi.

It's hard to guess what the case is with the back row selections. We are just missing that extra grunt from the back row. May as well play Higgers if we don't have it for his other skills. Timani does bring some grunt, just not as much as we would like, but certainly more than Hanigan or Dempsey. Tui does not look to be the answer either.

Surely Higgers would be more benefical then either Hanigan or Dempsey.

I thought Rodda did ok in his first start, and Koroibete was very good. Dempsey is a step up on Hanigan, but overall the backrow is still out of kilter. Too many look alike, play alike players for my liking.

First game for a couple of years that Sio hasn't been strapped like a race horse. Hopefully means that he's getting over whatever injuries he's had for a while. And didn't get penalised at all in the scrums that I remember. Also played good in open play.

KB (Kurtley Beale)'s attacking skills are great but he still cannot tackle effectively or consistently. That makes him a little better than half a player. He survives mostly because the backline shuffle tries to hide him away from the ball when on defense. Foley is similar.

I cannot see that Rob Simmons contributes positively to the game or its outcome. He still mostly ineffective and still gives away simple penalties, and his lineout calling does not compensate. Surely, one of Rodda or Arnold can be coached to call a couple of lineouts at the end of a game if and when Coleman leaves the ground.

I do think there is a noticeable improvement in individual skills though, and if they continue to improve the EOYT should go well.

As usual we look excellent in parts and sub-par in other aspects. A month and a half ago a draw at altitude wouldn't have been a bad result for us but with the Boks struggling lately I think we'll have to wait till Brisbane to see where we are at.

Had a little chuckle at McMahon jumping at the front of the lineout against Etsebeth. Eben was at the top of his jump before McMahon left the ground. A couple of times they just threw over him knowing he couldn't get high enough to intercept.

Both sides did some great stuff in attack, but matched that brilliance with some silly penalties and schoolboy errors. Some very costly defensive lapses too. I gotta say that if you looked at the whole 80, both sides would be disappointed, but that neither side would necessarily be saying they played well and above their opposition.
Was overall a good game to watch though

^^^Who would you pick in his place?
Or should we start with 14 and see how the game develops?
I’m no Foley fan at all but I gave up criticising when QC (Quade Cooper) lost his mojo, LILO got sick and Tomua went to aviva.
For me if foley was out I think we would struggle to be confident of any decent obvious alternative to put forward. It is foley then daylight before the next 10as an alternative which is more reflective of lack of depth at 10 and fact foley still has more good games than bad much to the foley haters frustration.

I thought he had a good game. Fronted up in defense although he missed a couple, broke the line often, carried on his good form with the boot at goal and as always played out the 80. The missed penalty kick for touch was unfortunate but forgivable. With his kicking form they should have taken those two shots within range. May have been the difference?

KAOP is weirdly obsessed with QC (Quade Cooper). Best to ignore, particularly as Foley was far from worst on, and probably in amongst the top 5 Wallabies in this game.

Overall, some good, some bad, some lucky, some unlucky.

Thought Foley and Beale were excellent in attack and terrible in defence. Kicking out of hand so-so.

I thought Koroibete was man of the match. Consistently made strong tackles. Love his tackling technique. Provides more than Speight.

Dempsey was quiet though not as noticibly bad as Hanigan when he came on and flopped from ruck to ruck like a fish.

Front row was pretty solid. Replacement front row was ok. I can't help but think in a high octane end to end match Uelese should have been coming off the bench and early than 60 minutes. Oh well.

Rodda was fairly anonymous. Arnold looking more solidified as second choice through absence.

If TK makes it an extra metre we win. If Jantjies doesn't hook his kick they win. Great game!
