Don't mean to fan the flames, but I didn't think Foley was any better than maybe a pass. He definitely did some really good things, but mixed it up with some really poor things as well, particularly in defence, but also some dud kicks.
I can't remember noticing Rodda much. I am hoping that was because he was stuck in doing the heavy lifting, but I'll be interested to see what the analysis shows up. Simmons had a shocker, so I except we'll see the rotation of locks continue. I thought Tui did okay though.
And we seem no closer to filling the role at 6. Even though I would have had Higgers in the original squad I don't think he is the answer there, and nor, for me is Timani, unless Cheika redefines McMahon's role. I'm not sure who is - at present we just don't have the high work rate, technically efficient, line out jumping option Cheika needs. Ironically I still think that the option that best would have balanced Hooper & McMahon was Fardy but that ship has sailed.
Having said all that I thought there were plenty of positives. I thought Hooper, Genia & TK were excellent. I thought our back three were very good - although I am still not convinced that the amount of positional switching is the best approach. For all the debates I have read about the respective virtues of Folau at 15 & Beale at 12, Beale actually seems to spend more of his time at 15 & Folau is doing a lot of
his best work off the right wing. Hodge made a nothing play in defence that led directly to a try, but otherwise I thought was very good and saved our arse a few times.
At the coal face Sio was very good, I thought Coleman was good but not sure we got enough out of the other 3.
On the whole, I thought it was a entertaining game, if somewhat frustrating for a Wallabies fan - but I felt not enough guys contributed enough. I don't religiously read game analysis, but I'll be interested to see some of the stats and
analysis on this one to see if it reflects my viewing.
