KAOP is weirdly obsessed with QC (Quade Cooper). Best to ignore, particularly as Foley was far from worst on, and probably in amongst the top 5 Wallabies in this game.

Overall, some good, some bad, some lucky, some unlucky.

Maybe Kaop is QC (Quade Cooper)

Maybe.

It would pretty much be the only rational explaination as to why he thought QC (Quade Cooper) needed to be in Olympic 7s squad with a single tournament under his belt where he was maybe outside the bottom 2 or 3 performers.

Considering I thought that the altitude would beat us, I thought that was a satisfactory result. It's a game we could have won but Saffa supporters would be saying the same thing in their favour.

Clearly we are a team on the up, apart from weaknesses or lack of depth in some positions (as opposed to just assuming dud selections) I think we are building nicely. There are valid criticisms of Cheika but I think that his rotations in these positions are about establishing who the best candidate is and/or building depth and by the end of the year you'd think that we would have an auto pick starting XV and some quality back ups in all positions. #10 possibly the exception here with the latter point.

yeah Derpus Foley was good because he started to be a real threat finally, hope it continues.
Our wings were outstanding, Koroibete has good hands.
Hodge imo in the last few weeks has made himself one of the first picked.

From what I've seen Koroibete is the best option we've got to shutdown Ioane out wide in Brisbane. He's very good one on one because he doesn't commit to the tackle too early and then get beaten by footwork. Also seems to be very strong as well (and clearly has managed to fit bicep curls into his program) and does a good job of wrapping the ball up high if he needs to prevent the offload. What I like most of all is his doggedness as he brings a desperation that Speight hasn't been showing of late.

^^^Who would you pick in his place?
Or should we start with 14 and see how the game develops?
I’m no Foley fan at all but I gave up criticising when QC (Quade Cooper) lost his mojo, LILO got sick and Tomua went to aviva.
I would put either Mack Mason or Jack McGregor in the wallabies squad at LEAST. Both performing very good in the NRC! We CLEARLY need depth and after that first half display, Foley would have been switched in any other team in the world at half time!
But the easy picks are either Jono lance or Quade....who's form despite what some seem to oddly think is not down....MOTM and played amazing for the second game in a row in the NRC! Absolutely lighting Brisbane City up on attack! And both Lance and Quade were far better defensively this year at super level!
It's not like Cheika Is afraid of trying debutants or blooding young new talent.....in fact the opposite! Why not our playmaker?

Don't mean to fan the flames, but I didn't think Foley was any better than maybe a pass. He definitely did some really good things, but mixed it up with some really poor things as well, particularly in defence, but also some dud kicks.

I can't remember noticing Rodda much. I am hoping that was because he was stuck in doing the heavy lifting, but I'll be interested to see what the analysis shows up. Simmons had a shocker, so I except we'll see the rotation of locks continue. I thought Tui did okay though.

And we seem no closer to filling the role at 6. Even though I would have had Higgers in the original squad I don't think he is the answer there, and nor, for me is Timani, unless Cheika redefines McMahon's role. I'm not sure who is - at present we just don't have the high work rate, technically efficient, line out jumping option Cheika needs. Ironically I still think that the option that best would have balanced Hooper & McMahon was Fardy but that ship has sailed.

Having said all that I thought there were plenty of positives. I thought Hooper, Genia & TK were excellent. I thought our back three were very good - although I am still not convinced that the amount of positional switching is the best approach. For all the debates I have read about the respective virtues of Folau at 15 & Beale at 12, Beale actually seems to spend more of his time at 15 & Folau is doing a lot of
his best work off the right wing. Hodge made a nothing play in defence that led directly to a try, but otherwise I thought was very good and saved our arse a few times.

At the coal face Sio was very good, I thought Coleman was good but not sure we got enough out of the other 3.

On the whole, I thought it was a entertaining game, if somewhat frustrating for a Wallabies fan - but I felt not enough guys contributed enough. I don't religiously read game analysis, but I'll be interested to see some of the stats and
analysis on this one to see if it reflects my viewing.

You do realize he was Motm his first game, scored a try, set up 3 more and we didn't loose any games he started in. And he didn't play just 1 tournament. He was clearly our best option and great at standoff. He instantly ran and called our plays and was the team speaker at halftime scrums.
Your comment is just incorrect.....but that's ok.....we went on to perform worse then our world 7s ranking at the Olympics....so we must have done just fine without him!(smacks forehead)

It almost seems you watch a Wallaby game just to pick apart Foley. You must hit pause and rewind to take notes during the game to be able to do what you did above. Apart from missing out on the live stream, it seems a pretty odd thing to do.

Foley was great tonight apart from maybe 2 or 3 errors, name me a player who didn't make 2 or 3 errors. But what he did in error, he made up for in spades with his direct running and great passing.

Foley is clearly our no 1 Fly half, Cooper is no-where and hasn't been for a number of years. So why don't you just get behind the whole team and see it for what it is.
Of course I stop and take notes mate.....that's how you get a thorough view when assessing a player. The coaches would do the same for every player! Otherwise you end up with subjective views based on what the commentators do or don't pick up!
And if you think Foley only made 2 errors, your the perfect eg of what I just said.....^^. But yes he certainly had his best game for along time as far as good impact in the game......

I'll be irked if Folau gets cited for his attack on the man bun.
I'd like to see footage of the aftermath and see exactly what Etzebeth did. Not that I saw anything other
than Hooper claiming the use an elbow, but at the very least I thought Etzebeth running in and going on with it the way he did was worth a reversal of the penalty.

It's hard to guess what the case is with the back row selections. We are just missing that extra grunt from the back row. May as well play Higgers if we don't have it for his other skills. Timani does bring some grunt, just not as much as we would like, but certainly more than Hanigan or Dempsey. Tui does not look to be the answer either.

I don't think it is hard at all, Cheika loves high workrate, aggressive forwards.

Timani just hasn't been that this season; and Higgers isn't going to be around or have the style of game he wants, he has great touches and individual moments but even his greatest fan wouldn't suggest he has a great workrate or is particularity aggressive.

With no established backrowers clearly standing out that meets that criteria he has punted on newbies with no great success.

To me, there is still a wonderful opportunity for a good young backrower to step up a grab that 6 jersey

I thought Rodda was fairly absent, and Simmons was his old self when he came on in the second half - gave away a dumb penalty in his first action in the game......

Dempsey and Hanigan still lack the impact required.

Otherwise in the forwards Sio, Coleman, Hooper and McMahon all had very strong games.........

Our backline generally played well, particularly in attack - gotta give Bernie some credit there........ kicking much improved (altitude though?).

I can't find too much fault with individual players........ Beale made a couple of errors that led to tries, and the Folau hair pulling was unfortunate, but overall there were some good performances there. Great debut from Korobeite.

I'm not sure if BJ has already posted this.........

I don't know how they missed that one, especially with the AR right there - it was pretty obvious in real time that it went forward.

Cheika has cut Timani, Arnold and Perese from the squad for Argentina.

Perese i understand, he is in a position where the players ahead of him are doing enough to justify their selection.

Timani and Arnold though... well... it's hardly a case of the players ahead of the players ahead of them justifying their selectionss
