"He will be punished, but that's up to the IRB (International Rugby Board). I do not believe we will see him in any Rugby World Cup again," Watson said.
"It's done and dusted now, but we (South African referees association) will be taking action. We want to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Noice, the independent referees of South Africa feel comfortable wading in to a debate on the performance of an NZ refffing Oz v Bokke.

What exactly can they do? I don't think he was going to ref and more WC games anyway, regardless of what happened in the QF.

I never thought I'd say this but I really feel sorry for him. He must feel like absolute shit now.

Jesus, I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy. I think it's nearly impossible to claim bias of a referee who has no affiliation with either team. He made decisions he thought were right at the time, whether they were good or bad doesn't deserve to be criticised now by lower ranked referee's and fans who have never refereed a game in their life.

It's sad that he's coping so much shit, for any aspiring referee what's the incentive to become a professional if one bad decision can make or break your career and your decisions on the field come back to haunt you off it. I always thought rugby was the other way around, at least for the players it is, why can't referee's get some lenience. If he wasn't a suitable referee for that match then it should be on the IRB's shoulders, not the guy himself.

We are trying to get quality refs, the only way to do this is by increasing numbers of referee's. It's a complete disgrace to the game to see them so heavily abused and criticised, we need to encourage them to continue and learn from their mistakes, not put them down in the media and call for their heads.

In one sense I feel sorry for byrce the way he has been treated, but I can understand the saffa frustration as he should never have been picked over a number of other refs, particularly mark lawrence.

That article looks like a complete beat-up and I doubt Mr Watson would agree with how he is represented there.

When you want to inflict mental or physical pain on a referee for not reaching a certain standard, you're the one who needs to get help.

Mmm Qwerty I was jut gonna say the same. Maybe not a whole lot more, but if they were going to go through it with a fine comb, a lot of missed indiscretions would pop up on the Bokke side. A lot of people haven't mentioned that just moments before he called up 'that' forward pass, a pass was called forward by the aussies that was blatently backwards, and would have put the Wallabies into South African territory for a rare time.

This is a disgrace: it's akin to the crap P de V went on with over the Botha citing and the armbands: the IRB should impose a sanction on Watson who, presumably, is some chance of having input into neutral refs appointed to ref in SA.
How could he as a former ref, guilty of many a dogy call, crucify one of his own?
As for the suggestion it's a beat up: Watson is quoted as saying he will be punished.
Are they all mad in south Africa?

Its vokken interesting to see the same old double standards when the subject ref arise in this forum. The same old same that jump up and down week after week about refs now all of sudden jump up and down when people who actually know something about reffing wants to do something.

Thats the reason why I stay clear when its about critizing refs special this lot doing it before matches. Get a vokken life. SA produce the best refs in rugby by quite a big margin and if they want to down Bryce after the same above lot complain like hell week after week , so let it be.

Watson for one do this week after week in SA rugby no shying away from kak reffing on weekends probably the reason why our standards is as high as it is.

They need to bring in fines like a believe the NRL do for criticizing refs. Whilst ref talk often dominates close games, it would be better if at least officially, a team with a complaint did so behind closed doors to protect the image of the game a bit.

It is what it is but some of the referees appointments before the cup raised serious questions. It has been said 1000 times but they selected they wrong Lawrence.

Lawrence was not bias at all, he was just crap period. I don't mind judging his performance but judging his integrity is over the line. As a rugby fan I don't like any poor refereeing stuffing a game in general.

The top three refs , M Lawrense, Berry and Peypler is doing CC rugby at this moment. You have no idea how frustrating it is to watch them do CC just after the WC lot fuck around. No idea.

If Lawrence gets shafted after this I suspect a lot of Aussies will be very happy if he never refs again.

Double whammy for you guys. Have (another) whinge about the dirty, rotten Saffers and never see Bryce again. Happy days.

Protect the image in whose eyes?

Little old grannies?

Children?

Sensitive metrosexuals?
