Plenty to like in this news snippet from the Manly newsletter:
After our heavy first-round loss to Gordon, Tahs coach Chris Whitaker rang Matt McGoldrick and offered to bring his team down for a scrimmage session against the Marlins on Manly Oval.

With hundreds of kids watching on, the two squads went at it for 90 minutes on Tuesday night before we put a sausage sizzle on to feed the hordes.

"It was excellent. The Tahs are a good bunch and they were really open with information," McGoldrick said.

"Our guys did well against them and think both squads got plenty out of it."

Congrats to the Penrith Emus last weekend. Great to see their jubilation in winning their first game in 7 years. I would hope they can have some more success this year but it is highly unlikely. This won't happen until the NSWRU and the SRU start to put mechanisms in place to support such clubs as Penrith, Parra & West Harbour. The comp will deteriorate to about 8 teams in the next few years unless something is done to support them.
Can someone tell me why Caird & Whetton are playing at Uni and Norths respectively. They should be out supporting and making a difference to these understrength clubs. Tizzano going to West Harbour is a good thing for the competition and also that club. Moeroa playing with Parra is also great for the competition and that area since he was such a strong junior for them and has significant ties with the area.
There are so many things wrong with NSW rugby but having players with no club allegiance just going to the strong clubs does nothing for the Shute Shield and nothing to support club rugby in areas where it is greatly needed.
SRU board can you stand up and do something to support the competition and put some pressure on the Waratahs to support such an initiative.

The game at Mudgee looked like being a blowout for a while. Pity that it ended the way that it did, not the score so much as the obvious acrimony between the teams.

I watched the last 30 minutes and some very entertaining rugby.

Clements must be wondering what he must do to get to the next level.

Was very impressed with the Woods 9. He looked very sharp

He tried out for the Sevens program, won best player of the trial, however didn’t get a gig.

Should have played for Uni, Randwick. Would have been a certainty.. Politics is killing rugby..

Not sure about that. The stakes are too high when we get to national representation for sectional interests to prevail. Usually.

Pretty good win by the Woodies today, but Easts will be a lot stronger when they get all their Soup players back.

Edmed was outstanding, but he had a lot of mates, particularly in the second half.

Rats account for Pirates - but Pirates stuck at it and were very competitive.

Warringah put some late points on to put the game out of reach.

Ben Marr very impressive -for Warringah

2 red cards, 1 to each team for striking the head

Just watched Souths v Norths.

Does anyone know why Norths had to drop to 13 players after a front rower was yellow carded?
Is that because they didn't have another front rower and had to go uncontested scrums?

Player in the bin -14
Uncontested scrum- no replacements left- drop 1- = 13.
Souths should have taken the points -20-16 - ball back off kick off- instead pretty dumb game management . Also- anyone have a problem with the Souths Capt continually in the refs ear and touching the ref. Bit of a whinger
