Simplistic to 'assign' all players to wherever they grew up. I don't endorse all of Sydney Uni's recruitment by any means, and would rather see a more equitable spread of talent, but this notion of 'Suburb of Origin' is naive. There are many factors in the equation.

Club of Origin/Suburb of Origin/School association of Origin is nonsense and only exists as a keyboard selection exercise.

Many kids have "bad" experiences with either their village club coach/management, or District Coach/Management when their are in the Juniors. These experiences are "badder" if they happen to be playing in the same position as the Coaches/Managers boy.

To progress, or to get the necessary experience and development, these boys often have to change club/district.

To suggest that a Club has some sort of mortgage over a player's services because of some geographic accident is fallacy.

Many kids (in the Schools A's pathway) are "lost" to their junior village club/district at Under 13, with all the "development" happening cutresy of the AAGPS/CAS/ISA school that they attend. They may pop up at State Champs having had about 2 or 3 trial games for their District, and anbout 6 or 8 training sessions. Very limited development and investment in the kid there.

Loyalty is a two way street and like respect, it is earned and can not be demanded in todays environment.

Shute Shield Clubs need to have a culture and package to attract and retain players, and it is not all about winning but that is important. Some clubs have an advantage due to location, facilities, coaching staff, "old boy" connections etc. There are weaknesses at all clubs that others can exploit to their advantage.

Uni - Unless you are a Soup player - you will get little 1st grade time at the business end of the season. If first grade time on the paddock is desired then go to a club that can give you more of that.

MMM and Rats. Unless you live on the peninsular, travel to and from games/training is a bugger.

Wicks. Unless you are connected with Stallion Rugby or Scots, the future may be bleak. Training can be hard to get to unless you can afford to live in the East.

and so on.

No - but I'm toying with going subject to these considerations:
Racing @ Rosehill
NRL Double header @ SFS
Swans @ Allianz

Probably depends where you live as to the extent these events affect you.

Despite traffic warnings on TV news about these events none carried any indication that, in addition to these events, the SS GF was on today almost in the very middle of them.
A bit sad when I think back to the old sportsground on grand final day.

Michael McDougall and Cam Mitchell were the Kings 1st XV centre pairing in 2008 weren't they? Also went onto to be the GPS 1sts, NSW I and Aus Schoolboys pairing. Nice journey for them to a Shute Shield grand final appearance.

Wonder if Tepai Morea and Tanne Milne do something similar?

Liam Winton has taken a big knock and Gigantor Willie Skelton has come on to replace him off the bench after 8 minutes.

Uni currently lead 10 to 0.

Nasty wind from the South (Parramatta Road end) at Concord. Favours Uni in the first half.

Good size crowd in the main stand. Not many in the East Stand looking into the sun.

Scrappy game so far. Mostly been all Uni possession and possession.

17 min gone. Bartger lines up a PK for offside and pushes it across the face for nil points.

20 minutes gone and Batger gets another chance (only 15 minutes out) and breaks the drought.

Uni 10 - Woodies 3.
